Wth the first cuts on August 28, some players will be playing their last games as a Patriot. Say your final goodbyes here.

See you Brian and CJ Jones, we hardly knew ye.

PERFECT question for tonight.

But tightend Jones (Brian, i think) isn't a goner yet.

If Mills' play is on the downside anyone there can still make the roster.

Given the competition, I think that it will be hard for Kelvin Kight to make the roster.

If so, he continues the curse of the KKs (or is that the Kurse of the KKs?) Kurt Kittner, Kevin Kasper and Kliff Kingsbury ...

By Miguel's page, the Pats will have to cut 5 players after this game. Here are my 5:

Hilliard, Dunlap, Kight, Anam, West

I'd have to agree with those. But it may or not be 5. I think it could be 3, as the Pats were mysteriously at 82 at some points this camp. We'll see...

I think because 2 are already on reserve PUP..they will need to cut 3...West, BJones, Anam.....

I don't believe that is correct. Who do you believe is already on the Reserve Pup?

Mike Reiss said 5 today, 6 if Asante signs by Tuesday.

Brian Jones was in with the 1st team offense during some two TE sets, FWIW.

That's becasue Barthelmes and Baugher had NFLE exemptions. Barthelmes has now been cut and I don't know when the NFLE exemption expires...

I believe that 2 were placed there pre-training camp...Eddie Jackson for one...maybe Chad as well. If you looked at the numbers at the start of TC, they were 2 over...and ALL the fringe players were on the field...between a number of us at TC that first day ALL were spotted. So why was that?? The ONLY logical way they could have done this...well there were a few...1---somehow getting a number of extra NFLE exemptions (2 more...) or 2---placing players on reserve PUP....as once they are RESERVE they are not counted. Will be interesting when the cuts are made. They MAY announce the PUP Reserve moves, but my guess was it was officially done pre-TC.

That was with the exemptions...they were 2 over starting training camp...

The Roter puzzle..OK..not a biggie BUT???

Here is the opening day TC roster.....
3 QBS---Brady, Cassel, Gutierrez 3
7 RBs---Maroney, Faulk, Morris, Evans, QHill, QSmith, Hairston 3+7=10
12 WR---TBrown, Childress, Moss, Caldwell, Gaffney, CJackson, Stallworth, Welker, Washington, Kight, Dunlap, CJ Jones 10+12=22
5 TE Watson, Thomas, Mills, Kranchick, KBrady 22+5=27
14 OL Koppen, Mruczkowski, Elgin, Neal, Mankins, Yates, Light, O'Callaghan, Kaczur, Britt, Hochsrein, Oldenburg, Hilliard, Barthhelmes 27+14=41
11 DL, Seymour, Warren, Wilfork, Wright, JGreen, Moore, KSmith, West, KBrown, Thomas, KSmith 41+11=52
13 LB Bruschi, Thomas, Seau, Vrabel, Colvin, CBrown, Woods, Mays, Alexander, Izzo, Bissinger, Rogers, Lua 52+13=65
15 DB Harrison, Wilson, Hobbs, Gay, CScott, Andrews, GWilliams, EJackson, James, Richardson, Sanders, Baker, Hawkins, Mitchell, Anam 65+15=80
5 ST Paxron, Gostkowski, JMiller, Malone, Baugher, 80+5=85

Samuel is NOT counted not signed a tender
or Meriweather as he had not signed.his contract NOT counted

There are 3 NFLE exemptions.. Baugher, Malone, Barthelmes.

80 + 3 = 83 They had 85??????

Having seen all the fringe players at TC....MY conclusion has been that 2 players were on RESERVE PUP from pre TC...How else do teh numbers add up??? Reserve PUPs are NOT coiunted towrd the roster limit as they are gone for 6 weeks plus....

Ass-u-ming that Samuel signs next week, the FO needs to make 6 moves (or 5, if Baugher still has an exemption). If I made the decisions, I would place Dave Thomas and the Jackson 2 on Reserve PUP, and release Dunlap and CJ Jones (and Chris Patrick, if necessary).

Of course, if I made the decisions, I would know the truth behind the injuries to Moss, Gaffney, $eemour, Richardson et.al. Maybe my roster moves would be different.

THAT is the one thing fans do not see...injuries and sometimes...and sometimes a position is expanded because of that; a higher priority than another. I remember one year they started with 10 OL...cut 1 before the first game...BUT original started with the 10 on the 53... (74)
Which is why they may go with 6 WRs...although with an added few on PUP?? Who knows...

Malone had one and was cut too.

It doesn't matter now though. NFLE exemptions, per the latest CBA, expire at the 75-man cutdown, which is Tuesday.

Here's how the numbers crunch as of right now, but remember these may not be correct, as these same numbers had the Pats over the limit by 1-3 at some points this summer:

81 total players
-1 Ca$h Money
=80

So yeah, Reiss and I agree on this one. 5 if no *****, 6 if he shows up.

But if the Pats only make 3 or 4 cuts by Wednesday morning, then we'll know if there are indeed any Reserve/PUPs.

That's the thing. My only intuition is that Kareem Brown might not have counted or something like that while he was on his "suspension."

As you said, the only other possibility is that the Pats got an NFLE "Bonus" exemption as Barthelmes was on the 53-man roster for a short time in 2006.

Could be 1 of each too. I'll have to go back and check, but that could be the reason why they cut a couple others when they terminated Barthelmes (and his possible bonus exemption).

4 PM Tuesday. Then we'll see.

I really think suspended players count as well though...toward the limit...it IS weird...but I really think RESERVE PUP might be it. I wonder what the REAL practicing rules are between active PUP and reserve?? If there is little...then I really believe PUP is the answer. I also recall BB talking about PUP and injuries in a press conference day one...(I think...) about how some were closer to coming back others were not erc etc

IF any are placed on PUP Tuesday or before, my guess is they were officially placed there pre-TC.

Well, there are essentially three types of suspensions:

-League imposed (i.e. Vick) -- don't count once suspension starts
-Team imposed (i.e. T.O.) -- don't count once suspension starts, I believe
-Unofficial team imposed (i.e. Kareem) -- most likely count even during suspension
