That's why Brady was picked off three times against San Diego. Sums up that 2006 offense allright.

Or, maybe it was just Brady making a bad throw while trying to force something to happen.. Which happens with most good QBs. When they try and force throws, they usually get picked off.

That's what the quote was saying. He had subpar help and had to force things. I used that game as an example because all three were in the middle of the field in tight coverage. You're just agreeing with me in an argumentative way.

No, I am not agreeing with you. One of the bad habits that Brady seems to have picked up lately is that he'll try to force things instead of taking what is given to him.

There were games last year where he tried to make the spectacular play even though he had other receivers who were open. I can remember watching one game in which Troy Brown was getting open regularly and Brady was going somewhere else. And I commented on the fact that it seemed like Brady was avoiding Brown. Brown ended up with like 3 receptions all in the 2nd half....But Brown was regularly open in the 1st half.

Brady was just as thrown off by the new receivers as the new receivers were in learning the system. Brady had several bad games where he was clearly making poor throws and poor decisions and when people tried to be objective and hold Brady accountable, they were ridiculed.

Brady is a damn good QB. But he has had some very bad games recently that can't be blamed strictly on the talent around him.

Honestly, instead of forcing it, I'd rather Brady either throw the ball away or take the sack. As BB shows with the defense, He'd rather have the interception than a sack. And the reverse would apply to the offense. He'd rather have Brady take the sack than throw the interception.

I only saw highlights of that game (including the two picks), but two things to remember are (a) on both of those plays Brady was about to get creamed by an unblocked rusher and (b) it's preseason. Brady may or may not have picked up bad habits - or he may just be working out his game timing and working out the offseason kinks.

If we see this kind of performance more than once during the regular season then it will be time to worry but for now let's just all take a deep breath and try to relax.

Yes, a good article with quotes from some credible pros who played the position. I like this comment from Theismann:

We know this only too well after last season.

You make good points. But I was merely making a comment about one of the difficulties Brady and the offense as a whole experienced in 2006. You're trying to once and for all settle the argument about who's fault it was. I was not relieving Brady of blame for his mistakes. I was using the game that exploited the flaws in the offense as an example.

I'm not sure how much agreement he's going to find around here for that.

Go back to last season's threads and you'll find a ton of people who felt that Caldwell, Watson, Gaffney et al were more than enough and that the lack of a deep threat had no adverse affect.

You'll even find plenty of folks using statistics to show that last year's offense was actually one of our best ever... this attitude was carried into the offseason when many suggested there was no need to upgrade at WR.

I think if it was painful for anyone it was painful for Brady who had a LOT more hits and pressure with defenses stacking the line, but as many fans will tell you, it doesn't matter what your eyeballs tell you - statistics don't lie!

This may not be scientific, but last season you could count 1...2...3...4..and Brady still hadn't released the ball.
In previous seasons if Tom had 3 seconds, he was going to nail someone....you just knew it. I would think, "Oh, man they're giving him too much time...he's goin' to carve them up."

Not so last year. The line could not keep people off him indefinately.

I admit I was wrong...they missed Branch and Givens. Tom is not good enough to excell with mediocre receivers...no one is.

Obviously wide receiver needed an upgrade. Ron Jaworski, Bill Belichick, and Scott Pioli all seem to agree on that one.
