Good F-ing LORD, another steal for the jets. Can WE trade someone to the Redskins?

Disgruntled Jets G Pete Kendall has been traded to the Washington Redskins, Head Coach Eric Mangini revealed in a Thursday afternoon press conference. New York is said to be receiving a fourth round pick in 2009, and possibly a fifth round pick as well, in exchange for Kendall.

From the jets insider front page.

Can you believe that?! Holy God. I just don't even know where to begin. Kendall is an angry, older interior lineman with NO versatility and a crappy attitude. A 5th would've been iffy. A 4th AND possibly more? Holy crap.

How is giving up a quality offensive lineman and only getting a fourth round pick a case where the Jets are ripping off the Redskins?

When said "quality" lineman isn't quality. When he has been going downhill for several years, is 35 years old and has had his share of injuries. And when a 4th is a GOOD pick, which it is. Oh - and when he's cornered the jets with an insistence that they re-do his deal or he'll continue being a malcontent. That's how.

And maybe a 5th.

By that token Oakland ripped us off on Randy Moss.

I'd of given a 4th for Kendall the 5th well that was probably cause their was more than 1 team interested in his services.

He's a solid starter in the Stephen Neal category I think Washington has made some nice moves this off season and the Cowboys and Redskins are gonna fight for that division.

I still don't understand why they just didn't give the man his money to start with it wasn't like ASSante's ransom, it was a reasonable request if they promised it, the games the jet's played with him or uncalled for he got a little justice in the preseason, which I don't agree with.

But you better believe the Jets are gonna be exploring trade options and combing the waiver wire for guards, that's why Elgin has to make the 53 we can't afford to have him on a practice squad for MANgina to snatch up.

You can't seriously have over 5000 posts and think that somehow Randy Moss's impact = that of a 35-year old Pete Kendall, can you? Really? Where did I make the argument that one should NEVER deal a 4th rounder for someone? Come on. Be serious.

I don't know what to do when I read stuff like this. Shaking my head, rolling my eyes - it all seems so...not enough. You have GOT to be kidding me. You guys do know that Kendall is a 35-year old with baulky knees who is being beaten out by SCRUBS in jets camp and complaining all the while, don't you?

Newsday's analysis of Kendall from last season:

THOSE WHO PROMISED AND DELIVERED

Pete Kendall – With a rookie on each shoulder, the 11-year veteran guard has had to be both professor and protector. The development of D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Mangold can be traced in no small way to Kendall’s tutelage. Oh, he’s also had a pretty decent season himself, rebounding from an early hamstring injury.

They may have gotten more out of the Redskins than Kendall is worth, but the Jets look like they may be risking this season to do it. Their left side of the line are could be in trouble. Ferguson had problems protecting Pennington's blindside with Kendall last year. How well is he going to do lining up next to Adrien Clarke?

As for Kendall's attitude, I don't get where he has had that bad of an attitude. The guy claimed that he had a verbal agreement with the Jets that the Jets renegged. The guy could have sat out, but he came to camp. He could have caused more waves when the Jets "accidentally" put him in the rookie dorms and they demoted him from starting guard to back up center when he is the best guard they had on the roster. If they had no intentions of keeping Kendall, why not either cut him or tell him to stay away from camp until they have a trade. The Jets made a concerted effort to humiliate Kendall.

I can see this as a lose-lose or a win-win for the Jets and Washington as much I can see it as the Jets stealing from the Redskins. If Pennington is on the IR by week three or passing for 20 INTs because Ferguson and Clarke can't stop the rush, how did the Jets win in this case?

Calm down. First the Skins don't HAVE a 4th round pick next year. Over at JI the fans there are all phyched up about this. They think that their FO is just miraculous for getting a pick for Kendall, Revis signed, and a conditional pick for some scrub they picked up this summer. Here is the less varnished reality of what happened.

1. The Kendall Deal - this is a mixed bag because while getting ANYTHING for a 34 year old disgruntled OLman is a coupe, whether its a 4th or 5th rounder. However losing your 3rd best, and most experienced OLman over a million dollars is NOT good. In a year when the Jets had Millions in cap room, renegging on a verbal promise and then exacerbating an ongoing dispute is not good front office management. I'm not siding with Kendall. Both side have to take SOME of the blame, but Tannenbaum isn't blameless on this. On what amounts to a relatively small dispute, you'd think something could have been worked out.

Its called getting the best out of a bad situation. The Pats underestimated Branch's market value in 2006. Seattle way over paid for Branch, but the Pats hold some blame here as well, and they proved they can learn from their mistakes by the great Warren signing, ensuring one of best 3-4 DE's in the league will play the rest of his career with the Pats for a more than reasonable amount of money.

IMHO I think the Jets FO screwed up and did the best they could by actually getting something for Kendall However, I don't think that when Pennington is running for his life, and Jones is averaging less than 3.5ypc, because of an undertalented and thin OL, that those 2 guys are going to be placated by the thought of that 4th or 5th round pick in 2008.

2. The Revis deal-While I understood why this deal initially wasn't done, AND applauded Tangini's stance. When everything was finished. Revis missed THREE critical weeks of TC and STILL got more than what he was looking for. The Jets lost 3 ways. They paid A LOT more than the slot allowed for. Instead of a 6 year deal, Revis can easily walk in 4, AND the Jets most important draft choice lost 3 CRITICAL weeks of TC. Not exactly the FO's most shining moment, no matter how they try to spin it.

3. The Pats pick up draft choices every year doing the same thing. Its not exactly brain surgery. Last season the Pats traded 2 OLman and got a 6th for the one who actually made his team.

You are revising history here. Kendall cornered the Jets by showing up to camp? I wish he would give advise to Asante Samuel on how to corner the Pats if showing up and playing is cornering a team.

Kendall said the Jets renegged on renegotiating his deal. He showed up to camp anyway. The Jets went on a humiliation campaign on Kendall. Kendall muffed two snaps playing a position that isn't his natural position which may or may not have been deliberate (only Kendall knows). The Jets seem to be in the wrong here, not Kendall.

He wasn't beaten out. Kendall was demoted for no reason. Not only did they demote him for no reason, they made him a position he didn't want to play in center. Mangini played games with Kendall plain and simple.

Who cares about any of this?

Who cares about any of this?

Well it is fun watching the Jets weaken themselves for this season and watching Mangini act like an ass while doing it after all these years of Jets fans talk about what an ass Belichick is.

According to S.I., the Jets will either get a 5th rounder in 2008 or a 4th rounder in 2009. I'm sorry, but I don't see any way in which the Jets ripped off anything but, possibly, their own season.

jets got raped on that deal

Both sides did pretty good. One man's trash is another's treasure.

Mangini has his team going in the right direction, he took a 4-12 team into the playoffs. Overall their drafts / free agent pickups have been solid.

Most 4th of 5th round picks don't end up on the roster and we won't know until next year at the earliest.

Who cares about what some idiot from Long Island thinks about the Patriots?

The Redskins are trying to buy a championship again.:p
