NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Randy Moss (hamstring) will sit out the Patriots' third preseason game but could play in the exhibition finale.

Moss, who hasn't practiced since August 1, remains on track to play in the regular- season opener. We'd only slightly downgrade him for the lost time. Aug. 22 - 8:40 pm et

Hear that Jets! He's comin' for ya!

Moss is going to make Revis wish he held out another month.

I'm so glad BB's decided to give reporters all the injury information!

From the quote, this pretty much means nothing. Almost anything could happen. This seems like pure speculation because Moss hasn't yet been ruled out of that game.

I totally agree. That is a completely USELESS echo-chamber of what the guy said. I mean, Wow - "Moss won't play this week, but he COULD play next week." My Mom could say that, too, and it would mean just as much. They might consider waiting til someone like, oh I dunno, BELICHICK or, say, Randy Moss says so. God.

Schefter's article can be found HERE, and it is very encouraging:

Adam Schefter said:
But after almost four months together, the Patriots now wish they had more players as hard-working and as vastly talented as Moss.

Soon enough, the public and Patriots fans will see for themselves.

With Moss nursing a minor hamstring injury that the Patriots are being extremely cautious with, the mercurial wide receiver is not expected to play Friday night at Carolina, but he could see some brief action in New England's preseason finale.

Sometime in the next two weeks, Tom Brady and Randy Moss will be in a game together for the first time as teammates.

But here's the news that will be felt all the way to Hempstead, New York: The Patriots fully expect Moss to be on the field for the regular-season opener against the New York Jets.

After being around Moss since April, the Patriots have high hopes.

People wondered how the marriage between Moss and the Patriots would work. The early answers are in ... and the honeymoon shows no signs of letting up.

From anyone else I would agree.

But remember, Schefter broke every major Pats move this offseason.

He did something to get in the know with the team.

Coming from him this sounds very encouraging!

I actually hope Moss sits out the entire preseason.

No need to risk injury over a game that doesn't count. Take the extra few weeks to heal the hamstring even more.

I can't wait for WEEK 1.

I'd like to see Moss and Brady get ONE series together in game 4, depending on what happens in game 3. But I won't care too much either way.

me too. i would not be surprised if Brady does not play on Friday and then comeback for game 4 with Moss.

Right, it means that the injury isn't that bad and the Patriots aren't hiding a tear or something. He "could" play in the finale does mean something when the other option is he "can't" play.

I expect the opposite. Brady plays 2-3 qtrs on Friday, possibly not at all in the 4th game.

If he comes out at all in game 4, it might be one series, to have Stallworth and Moss on the field together with Brady at game speed, and only because the first two games are relatively more important -- top division opponent and top conference opponent.

we know so little

players trickle back but K. Brady, R. Moss, R. Seymour, R. Baker have not seen the field in a while and we have little idea of when to expect their return (to say nothing of Hochstein, c. Jackson, T. Brown and some others.) I would be thrilled if all returned to practice the week of game 1, but I would not be surprised if several of the stars stay out a while. Better to have them in January.

Yes, now that I've read the article it sounds much more grounded in something. And good point about Schefter's history. Thanks.
