Think we'd be interested. He'd probably have to share some snaps.

TROTTER OUT IN PHILLY

The second tenure of linebacker Jeremiah Trotter in Philly is now over.

WIP radio, Sal Paolantonio of ESPN, and Jay Glazer of FOX report that Trotter will be released. An official announcement will be made at 1:00 p.m. EDT.

Trotter became a star with the Eagles, and was slapped with the franchise tag after the 2001 season, when his rookie contract expired. The team lifted the tag later in the offseason, and Trotter signed with the Redskins. He spent two disappointing years in Washington before being released, and then returned to the Eagles, where he worked his way back into a starting job -- and was a key player during the team's 2004 Super Bowl run. He started 15 games in 2005, and 16 games in 2006.

UPDATE: The Eagles have officially announced the move. Said head coach Andy Reid: "Jeremiah is one of my favorite guys. There's no question that this is the toughest part of this job. He and I met about this last night and it was very emotional for the both of us. Jeremiah and I have been together for many years and he's played a vital role in helping this team win a lot of football games. He developed himself into a Pro Bowl middle linebacker through a lot of hard work and desire. In my mind, he will always be a Philadelphia Eagle and I'm sure he feels the same way. I wish he and his family nothing but the best in the future."

I think his knees are shot. They have been bothering him for years and it has been slowing him down.

Would be a great guy to add if healthy, but it looks like that is in the past.

Obligatory complaint post: as soon as some washed up player is cut, we have a thread about him coming to the Patriots. <<rant, rant, rant>>

I'm not sure if the Pats would be interested but I don't think he will be without a team for very long.

Trotter is a moron. He failed in Washington because he couldn't pick up the defense and that was before Gregg Williams came in with his complicated defense. Trotter would probably have to be limited to very situational circumstances for him to come here. Our defense seems far too complicated for a guy like Trotter.

I bet the Giants would pick him up - they even took a shot at Arrington.

Not saying I'd want him, just gauging everyone's interest.

He's a guy the past two years that's been able to catch lightning in a bottle in a few big division and playoff games, but for the most part he's just got a declining skill set and a body that won't let him be productive over a 16 game season. Could be a good situational guy somewhere but I don't think New England is it.

The Redskins also cut Lemar Marshall and signed Randall Godfrey.

Honestly, I wanted Trotter two years ago when he was one of the better known FA LBs during the 2005 offseason, but of course he eventually re-signed with the Eagles. IMHO Trotter could've been a better choice at that time for BB rather than Chad Brown and Monty Beisel!

I don't think there's a place for him on the team. At best, he'd be the 6th LB in the rotation. Even then, I'm not sure he'd be an improvement over Woods or Rodgers.

With a last name like Trotter he should quit football and become trainer of harness racing Horses. ;)

So now the Eagles don't have Jones or Trotter. Instead they have Spikes who has neck problems. For their sake, I hope they have decent replacements...wait, we're playing them. I guess we'll polish up the running game.

im still waiting for rex grossman to get cut to see if there will be "should we sign him threads"

I was hoping the Pats would pick him up when he was cut by the Redskins in 2004 now he is just another washed up stiff who will have trouble walking the rest of his life.

Spikes has neck problems? I know he blew out his achilles a couple years ago, but didn't think he got hurt otherwise.

Are you thinking of Al Wilson?

How about a little compassion for a guy who had been a good player in his prime and show maybe a little class even if he was not a Patriots player.

Yes his time has come to leave the NFL with recurring injuries, but he will probably come soon to realize this and retire.

'Washed up stiff' sounds ignorant, especially since he was not one of those non-factor guys on that eagles defense and did pose a threat on the field when he was healthy.

He was great player I liked him a lot, he energized their entire defense and brought a much needed toughness to the Eagles.

I was pointing out how cruel the game is and the price these guys pay, one day you are the king, the next day you are nothing.

And as soon as anyone wants to talk about a player coming to the Patriots, somebody complaints about it.
