If Asante were in camp, I'd consider it. Actually I'd STILL consider it even before he comes back - but only if the Cowboys go insane and give us Carpenter for Tory James.

I doubt they'd get rid of Carpenter after only one season.

Burnett is a little small for our system. He weighs just 227 lbs. according to NFL.com

Can anyone think of a time where a team drafted a player in the first round and then traded him the next year? I sure can't.

I'd probably take Asante over those players anyway. We'd weaken our defensive backfield and only for an average linebacker. And I doubt any of them could come in this year and contribute much aside from special teams.

This is a silly proposition. Asante is WAY better than Goldilocks.

This thread filled up fast. I never read your post.

ESPN.COM has him at 240 lbs. and he is young at 24 but this is his 3rd year.

Akin Ayodele is listed as 240 lbs. on NFL.com and 250 lbs. on DallasCowboys.com. Burnett, meanwhile, is listed at 240 lbs. on DallasCowboys.com. Looks like NFL.com needs to get their numbers straight.

Burnett was 6'3'' 239 lbs coming out of college. He blew out a knee his junior year in college and blew another his first year in the NFL. His problem isn't straight line speed, but lateral quickness. I would prefer Akin Ayodele, personally, but any of the Cowboys young LBers is better than the backups on the Pats. The fact that they are all familiar with Parcells' 3-4 is a huge benefit.

That is interesting especially bringing up Bobby Carpenters name. For them I guess he would be playing more inside linebacker and special teams just my thoughts.

i'd take carpenter and a pick for #22 without batting an eyelash

the LB's weight isnt everything, look at Vilma, from everything Ive heard and read the patriots would of jumped all over the chance drafting him if he was available, hes not even that big...

theres a reason he might be available for trade and reason he sucked so much last year. he cant play in 3-4 yet. bradie james is not a very good player and they moved Ellis to OLB last year while Carpenter couldnt even compete against them.

Yeah. He might be more of a ball chaser style LB and suited more for the 4-3.

Carpenter player very well at OLB in the Seattle playoff game last year. But the Cowboys have D. Ware and just drafted Spencer. Under BB Carpenter will blossom. He's learned some humility from his Cowboy experience.

Last season he mentioned his lack of freedom in the 3-4. But, yes. I agree that BB will utilize his skills.

Carpenter for the signing rights to Asante... hellyeah... in a heartbeat!

We know the Patriots can't, but can other teams sign Asante to a long term contract now that we are past the July 16th deadline?
