Gaffney hurt his knee on a play with 5:40 left in the first half...he stayed in for a few plays but looked like he was hurting and than came out and was not seen again. No one has mentioned it anywhere.

Anyone else see this? Anyone know anything?

Yup...I saw that as well. After the play, he did stay in (they were in hurry up), favoring his right leg.

He was obviously flexing his leg, I am surprised no one mentioned this.

I put my binoc's on him and saw him flexing his leg. Then the Doc. came over and I watched him flex his leg and point to his kneecap.

Once he came off, he never did return.

Hopefully it is just a sprain...

Re: Unspoken Inj...(Gaffney)

If anything in the Knee was torn, he'd not have been able to walk, let alone stay in for a few plays.

The only type of knee injury that isn't immediately hobbling is a sprained MCL. Even those the guys come out of the game immediately. That would be the worst this could be, which would be a 6 week thing.

MUCH more likely this was just some kind of tweak or cramp.

"Dr. Know" here
supposes that if he was flexing it and walked off unaided on it
... that he'll be ready for next week.

Good report, though!

Re: Unspoken Inj...(Gaffney)

Never root for injuries, and I'm not doing so here, but this is one of the few places where AN injury is handle-able. I hope Gaffney's leg is okay, but we are pretty deep there, to the point of there being ridiculously hard decisions to make.

even though everyone thinks he has had a good camp (me included) can he afford to be hurt even for a few weeks?

I don't think was a real serious injury but he was hurting...

My brother and I went to the game last night.....thankfully we were under the club seating.:) I noticed Gaffney limping after the play discussed....I remember saying to my brother that he was hurt. But, I am not to worried....due to the fact he played a few more downs. Heck....I limp around the house when I sit in my chair for too long

He played a few more downs because they were in hurry up. As soon as there was a break, he came right out, never to be seen again (and that may very well be a prophetic statement by yours truly).

Perhaps true if it was a ligament, but one can certainly limp around with a meniscus tear. The good news, if that is what it is, is that he can have his knee scoped and play within 3-4 weeks. On the other hand it might be just a sprain or "tweak" too.

I hope it isn't anything serious. I'm really rooting for him to make the team.

If he's out 3-4 weeks, the timing might be perfect for him to return right when the next WR gets injured.

he is not on the field today....per reiss and breer

I walked around for 4 months between having my ACL shredded and having it repaired.

It isn't favorable, but it certainly is very possible to walk around with torn cartilage and ligaments in your knee.

Re: Unspoken Inj...(Gaffney)

Bone-bruise maybe? The Saints got that scare after they didn't play that well during the HOF game.

It was reported that Payton originally wasn't going to have them practice in pads after that game but he didn't like what he saw so he was going to send a message only to get a scare from one of their starting O-linemen when he collapsed holding his knee. They found out later that it was just a bone bruise and nothing a few days of rest wouldn't fix.

It could be anything. We won't really know much until we hear about him back out on the practice field with how BB approaches injury news. ;)

That said, it's always troublesome when a player that relies on speed and the ability to cut has trouble with their legs. Hope it's nothing!

I have had ACL tears in BOTH knees, and meniscus tears. Three surgeries.

I walked around for four months with my first one too, and a few weeks with my second one. Yes, I agree with you. The poster who said that if anything in the knee was torn he wouldn't be walking around was incorrect. However, immediately after both ACL tears I was writhing in pain. Several hours later I could walk with some discomfort.

A meniscus tear feels different. It's more of a soreness and a feeling like your knee is telling you "don't do that" when you try to move or put pressure on your knee a certain way.

First mention of this injury was right here by Sign Baby Brady.....nice going.

I would not be at all surprised if the bloggers Reiss and Tomase/Breer go their information from here.

I bet they read it and then checked it out....Gaffney not showing for practice proves it. Also, not a good sign at all.

Didn't Terrell Davis play almost an entire game with a torn ACL? It is possible to walk on it. I think it is far too early to think Gaffney has had any significant damage.

I have seen knee injuries where it looks like the player shreaded every ligament and have them only miss one play. I have also seen players running and just fall to the ground without twisting his knee or any contact and miss a year with a torn ACL.

So we should just wait and see. The longer we go with no news with this organization, the better. We probably won't hear anything other than him being day to day until he is on the field or on IR. At least not until the Wednesday before the regular season when the first official injury report comes out.

so you too know that feeling of laying sideways...forgetting about your knee...relaxing your leg just enough to feel it come out of joint and wake you right the heck back up?

not recommended

i have a meniscal allograft--13th one ever done...still feel gummy some days, but a heck of a lot better than a knee replacement...

I am not sure if TD played with a tear (very well could have) but I know one of the DTs for carolina a few years back payed with one, He tore it the year before and was back from rehab and tore it again he didn't come off the field for a half, he wasnt effective and the tear wasnt as bad as the original. I think it was Kris Jenkins but it could have been one of the others.

thanks FGS for the plug
