HOT:
Samuel - gets more valuable daily
I don't think that incredible defensive display in the first half did a damn thing for Samuel's leverage. Rodney slapping down passes, Gay slapping down passes, Hobbs we know is solid, and tremendous pressure even w/o Seymour & Warren. We'd love to have Samuel back, losing Chad Scott makes that evident, but Friday did not.

Count me as thinking Gutierrez is hot. And please don't compare him with Cassel, that makes no sense. Consider he's a low, low pick in his first preseason (was he UDFA, I can't remember, and I can't find the draft reports on the new NFL website).

HOT:
COLD:
Lua (To Be Cut)
Mays (thank the gods we have better folks this year; TBC)
Mills (last year's IR fav has shown ZILCH; TBC)
Caldwell (in serious danger TBC & I'm a 2006 fan of his)
Chad Brown (TBC mystified why he's here; oh yeah, LB injury desperation insurance, my bad)
Tory James (looked better on paper than on the field, TBC)

I looked at this for a couple minutes trying to figure out what the hell Tully Banta-Cain had to do with any of these guys before realizing what TBC really meant.

I'm with you on Gutierrez. I thought he looked good. Cassel kinda shaky.
They signed Vinny the following day. Someone's gotta go.
Could they be shopping Cassel? Not trying to start rumors, just wondering. I really did'nt like anything I saw from Cassel at all.

UDFA. I still say that he has little to no chance to make the roster.

You were not alone on that one.
Re Gutierrez, he looked good and it was in contrast to Tomase/Breer's comment during the week that he threw interceptions in practice, the way some of us check our cell phones, " every few minutes" ( their words, not mine).....

I don't remember saying he was going to make the roster. :) But as I've said before and will say again until blue in the keyboard, or until the next preseason game, he handles the rush and looks over his receivers with good poise for a UDFA. That bodes well for his potential to handle NFL game speed, which is one of the components for success. It's a component Cassel had trouble learning, and (why can't I remember his name) the pregnant QB with the low helmet really struggled with it. So I get a little interested when a Pats rookie QB shows signs of poise under pressure. Maybe he's eaten some Flutie Flakes: shows up better on game day than in practice.

Last year I was happy Mays went to the Larry Izzo special teams school, unfortunately he also went to the Larry Izzo linebacker school.

Young LB edition...

Hot
Rogers, Woods - continued improvement on the edge

Not
Lua, Mays - as stated above, the Larry Izzo school.

Rookie Gutz was just emulating Brady & Cassel.
All 3 are having an undistinguishing camp. It is what it is.

I'm not worried about Brady. Cassie still has 2 games to get in form. Gutz is destined for the PS for further development emulating the next week's opponent.
