I am now fine with eight OL's, if Yates or Hochstein needs to go to the IR. Further backups will be on the Practice Squad.

Washington is in a fight with Caldwell for a roster spot. Gaffney's injury might lead us to keep both, forcing us to cut one of the "Last Three".

Richardson and James are fighting for the last CB spot unless Samuel takes it.

LeKevin Smith and Wesley seemed to have solidfied their roster spots.

I for one hope Gaffney and Washington both make it, but some said Gaffney might have injured himself last night, so that could open up a spot for Caldwell...

I'm starting to see it your way, mgteich, concerning Mills. He doesn't seem to be even in games. But I still think Caldwell makes it over Washington. Better value longterm. But who knows.

I'm worried if there are only three true cornerbacks -- and one of them is James. Are you one of those banking on Samuel?

Washington seems to have beaten out Caldwell. LeKevin Smith and Wesley seemed to have solidfied their roster spots.

Out of curiosity, what is EITHER of these definitive statements based on?

Mel Mitchell makes this team?

For what? Richardson deserves that spot because Wesley already took the spot of Mel.

So will Eddie Jackson next season. Mel's a goner.

I think a case for LeKevin Smith can be made since he got the start last night since both Seymour and Wright were out. The coaches seem to have confidence in him.

I dont understand it either but Le Kevin seems to be carving out a very nice spot for himself and Wesley seems just to strong and fast to let go.

Wesley was brought in to replace mel Mitchell.

Isn't Mel a superb special teamer?

I wasn't arguing LeKevin (didn't mean to include him in the quote - oops), I think he's close to a lock at this point. I was wondering about Kelley Washington over Caldwell (which I don't think is CLOSE to decided yet) and Wesley having solidified a spot.

I think that Wesley has looked good, and his primary competition has kist been cut.

I agree that I overstepped with regard to Cladwell vs. Washington. This is still a real fight, so much so that I will edit the roiginal post.

I put Vinnie on the 'Shadow' roster.

5 WRS - Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Gaffney, Caldwell
- the position is very interesting, a sleeper who could emerge is Kight, he makes the plays he should and competes on special teams
- Washington is nothing great but if Caldwell struggles he could take the last spot because of special teams
- (Troy Brown comes in from PUP after a few games)

OL - big question marks, is Hochstein really hurt? is Yates really done?
- I don't see Britt sticking with the team, Hilliard, Oldenburg, Elgin, Patrick take his spot becuase they offer versatility (G or T)
- 8 seems low

3 CBs - I would place Richardson above Wesley

DL I could see Brown beating out Smith or they possibly keep Moore as a spare NT (not likely, wasted roster spot)

Just when we thought things were clearing up it is just as confusing as before TC started.

Washington plays in the kicking game and is a serviceable receiver. Caldwell is a serviceable receiver. I see it differently but also echo your "who knows."

I agree with most of your roster, but I think Richardson makes the team before James does.

I was going to say the same thing. I don't want to cut the ST guys like Mitchell and Wesley, our ST has been so up and down I want our best out there. But once Samuel is back we have three veteran CB, I'd prefer the upside of Richardson over James. Of course, we may be able to stash Richardson on the PS but I'm kind of psycho about losing good looking young players.

So, after the discussion, we have three situations. I know there are other who disagree with more than this, but my guess is that the vast majority of posters would be fine with 50 spots of the roster as stated, with their favorites for the final three.

1) Yates or Hochstein on IR (but both could make the 53) or Elgin if both are on IR (very unlikely).
2) Caldwell and Washington are fighting for a spot (but Gaffney may be losing ground because of his injury). We could keep six, but that is unlikely.
3) James and Richardson are competing for the last db spot.
If Samuel shows, it's likely that both are gone.

I strongly disagree with your analysis of Britt. He has started for us at LT. There is no reason to put one of the rookies on the 53. We certainly won't be trusting them to start at LT any time soon. The rookies need to spend their time at Dante's Academy on the Practice Squad.

I think that RIchardson needs to beat out James to make the squad. He won't beat out Wesley as a ST'er.

Sure, take Britt then, if Hochstein and/or Yates are really hurt then add a rookie of your choice. It may be wise to take 9 linemen anyway.

Richardson is on the bubble, without Samuel we are very thin at CB. James hasn't looked very sharp to me so I gave the edge to Richardson.

In the back of my mind I have been mapping out who will make the PS and could be called upon in case of an emergency but... once a player is cut they are under no obligation to sign with the Pats so we shouldn't count our PS chickens before they hatch. Although after the players hit the street it is not that difficult to find a young JAG to complete the PS.
