Re: Pats cut 2 Per Reiss

Williams looked good on special teams against Tampa Bay. I was kind of disappointed he didn't get opportunities this week. He looked pretty fast on returns. I don't think I saw him out there at all against Tennessee.

Yeah, Gemara missed most or all of the week's practices due to an injury.

Bissigner missed the last public practice on Wednesday.

Both weren't dressed last night.

Pats moves
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

The Patriots have released rookie free agent linebacker Kyle Bissinger and second-year cornerback Gemara Williams.

Both players are recovering from injuries. Bissinger hyperextended his knee in practice, while Williams aggravated his hamstring. Williams, who returned two kickoffs in the preseason opener (32-yard average), is remaining in the Foxborough area with the hope he can be re-signed when healthy.

"Gemara really likes the organization," said agent John Pace, who represents both players. "Both have to heal, but I think they'll both land with a team when that happens."

From the agent's comments, it sounds like they weren't waived/injured as was the case with Hairston. So don't look for them reverting to IR.

Williams was actually waived/injured last year though, and reverted to IR.

You didn't see either of them because they both didn't play due to injury, as Reiss explained.

Pats1... We missed you last night in chat.... The PBP duties got passed around... It was bad when I had to do it based off the radio broadcast which was about 10 seconds behind.

Yeah, I certainly didn't anticipate getting home at 10:30. I'll be there next week though -- the most important game of the bunch. :)

Next week's game is being broadcast nationally on CBS.. At least that's what I've been told...I'd expect the chatroom to be dead...except for those fans outside the US...IF its broadcast nationally.

He did look fast on kickoff returns and wasn't hesitant about returning it right up the gut.

Excellent. It's been awhile since I've watched a preseason game without typing at the same time. :D

I thought both players showed some promise against Tampa, hopefully they turn up again later on the practice squad. Bissinger needs to get stronger and work on technique, but in the two defensive series I dug into, he played with good discipline and awareness - he didn't make any tackles, but he created the opportunity for others through gap control and block absorption. Williams looks to have the talent for CB - probably nickel - and STs, it just needs training.

When I re-watched the Tampa game, what I noticed about bissinger is that he was good at being where he was supposed to be and he'd engage a blocker, but he'd never get loose. There were a couple of runs to his side where he just got washed out of the play...

Which is a strength and technique issue, something that given the normal evolution period of a young LB on BB's Pats says he's worth a Practice Squad slot and re-signing in January for the off-season program. I'll gladly root for a player who can pick-up the mental aspect of the game so quickly, it suggests he hasn't had to rely solely on his athletic ability - and after watching him stack up a G/FB double-team on one play, I'd suspect he also has the raw material Coach Woicik needs. I will agree with AWTE over on Planet, he doesn't have the burst off the edge Rogers has, I'd start with him outside to learn that role, but work him inside to see if he can be another Bruschi.
