I have only seen a few replays, but I did see the presure the D was getting.

From what I saw, it looked like missed assignments

The first pick goes as follows.

1. Ball is snapped.

2. Titans rush 4.

3. The center and right gaurd engage the left defensive tackle.

4. The right offensive tackle engages the left defensive end

5. The left guard engages the left defensive tackle.

6. The right defensive end runs behind the back of the right tackle who is already engaged by the offensive guard.

7. When Matt Light sees this, he just joins the left guard blocking the right defensive tackle (he didn't need any help..

8. So at this point the defensive end goes right up the middle untouched, and you know the rest.

On the second pick,it goes like this.

1. Ball is snapped.

2. Titans rush 4.

3. The right offensive gaurd takes on the left defensive tackle.

4. The right offensive tackle pushes the left defensive end to the inside of the left defensive tackle, who is still engaged with the right offensive guard.

5. The right offensive tackle then just disengages the left defensive end and runs to help block the left defensive tackle.

6. So now no one is blocking the left defensive end anymore and he just regains his balance, and rushes Brady.

My point is this.

This can be fixed.

Granted I did not see a lot of plays, but on the plays I did see, it was not that the offensive line was getting out muscled. In fact, on all the plays I saw the Pats O-line looked stronger then the defensive line (not as fast, but stronger).

Now, those of you who saw more then the highlights, maybe you saw them get tossed around. I can't speak for that.

Please feel free to add any other analysis for those of us who couldn't see the whole game.

But to me, it just seemed like the o-line needs to work on the scheme. Which can be fixed.

Please post your thoughts!

Re: Analyzing the O-lines problems

you're blaming Matt Light for the first pressure? It was a stunt. There is no way that is Light's fault. I think Mankins should have shifted and taken the stunt and Light should have slid over on Mankins guy.

The problem is quite simple:

Only to the ignorant.

Light got beaten like a mule the entire night. Only a blind person would feel otherwise. Someone must have told Light that he was lining up against Jason Taylor last night or something...

If Light was getting beaten so badly, how did the Pats run behind him several times for plus yardage?

Also, the ENTIRE LINE was getting beaten... But you must have missed that because of your need to focus just on Light.

I can see where it comes across that way, but really I'm not because I don't know what Light was suppose to do.

I do think it would have been tough for Mankins to disengage his blocker, because the defensive end waited till Mankins engaged the defesive tackle before coming aroud the defensive tackle

I've posted this before.

I think that they are having problems getting the zone blocking down. On the stunt that Brady got hit badly, there was no one picking up that gap. You could have sent a marching band through the hole that was created.

That's the bad news. The good news is Dante will correct this before the frirst regular season game.

I agree. It looked to me that a lot of times there was confusion about who should be blocking who.

Anybody who blames the problmes last night on Matt is a goddam fool.

Start an argument with me about it because people who can actaully analyze the game know he was not the problem.

The real problem?

Nick Kaczur.

Absolute trash.

Possibly ridiculously ignorant question: The zone blocking scheme the team is now completely switching to, I assume it is an OVERALL change, right? It's for run plays AND pass plays? I know this seems/is a stupid thing to ask, but it has always been referred to only in the context of how we run the ball, so I'm just wondering.

Help! Thanks.

Im not sure of the answer myself but why would need a zone blocking scheme for passing plays? It doesnt make sense for OL players to get to the second tier of players if Brady needs to throw it.

Im not sure, just giving my best logical guess.

But i assume your correct its only running game.

From what I saw, I don't think you can put it on anyone other then learning.

I didn't see either Matt Light or Kaczur get physically beat.

And on the two int's, one time it was a guy who was originlly Matt's guy who stunted (not saying Light should have picked him up, I don't know what they should have done).

The other, Kaczur actually handled his man but then just left him.

I think it is a matter of the whole offensive line picking up the scheme

In no way am i saying Matt Light is perfectly fine and deserved no criticism but i noticed tons of Bad plays by nick. Tons.

You know, I made a statement and now I'm not so sure. So, I've posed the question to someone who seems to know about zone blocking more than I do.

I'll post his answer when I get it, even if it takes a couple of days. If his answer is different than what I thought, I'll happily eat the crow.

Does anyone want to go out on a limb and say that the OL performs great against Carolina? I wouldn't be surprised one bit if it happened, even if against the likes of Peppers and Jenkins.

Umm, you didn't see Light chasing after pass rushers from behind all last night? He is so damn slow these days that rushers go right around him. Kaczur ain't exactly Hannah either, but Light is the Jason Varitek of this team (painfully overrated, but for some reason a fan favorite).

Is someone blaming the pass blocking on Matt Light ot Todd Light? -:) The announcers had them both playing. I have to wonder if the few, full pads practices in TC aren't a contributing factor in the pass blocking problems here early in the PS games. That's not something you get good at in the classroom or walk throughs. I understand the reason for fewer full pad practices help prevent injuries and the like. But the 'dog days' of TC have been more like the poodle days with the few full pad practices. I have little doubt this will get better with many of the OLmen having played together for a few years. But you still have to be out there doing it to get in sync.

Re: Analyzing the O-lines problems

I feel a little better after reading this thread about the O line. Thanks to posts by Patsnutme. I'll take your word, Patsnutme.

I have to admit, Dabruinz that I agree with Bruschi 3:16. Not the Dunce reference part but you know what I mean.
In this post you point out Light's run blocking skills but that does not address the problem Matt has had and that is pass protection. The guy seems to get beat an awful lot.

No only a blind ignorant person who doesn't understand the game would think that Like gotten beaten like a mule the entire night. Light had 2 bad plays in 10 series. two. That's it. One resulted in the fumble by Brady. One VandenBosch and Haynesworth seem to blow by Light, but the run play is already past the line of scrimmage up the middle. If anyone missed anything it was Mankins.

Someone obviously hasn't ever told you that you are clueless and don't know how to evaluate situations.

I bet you think that Light taking VandenBosch wide and deep on screens isn't designed, don't you? I bet you think that the TE taken VDB and Light moving up to block the LB at the 2nd level wasn't designed.
