FWIW, nfl draft countdown has us taking...

The Ohio State LB Laurinaitis

and...

The Arizona CB Cason
Nice to see they have us picking as #32. But SF picking at #31 with their pick from the Colts doesn´t add up then (have to be an NFC team).

I think this will be Bruschis last season :( and Seau too. So the Pats will need someone who can start from day 1. They might draft a LB in round 1 (I doubt it) but I´m sure they will sign someone in FA. Unless of course a couple of our young back-ups steps up.

No way would the Ravens deal Suggs. They love him. He's an impact player.

They might not get a chance to deal him. He's scheduled to be a FA at the end of the year, unless the Ravens sign him LT or slap the tag on him.

My guess would be the latter if they have the cap space. Maybe that's why they didn't use it on Thomas this year.

Why did the Patriots trade out of two day one slots for very little added value?

It really wouldn't make sense unless they see better quality at a certain position this year.

Where are they going to spend all that day 1 ammunition?

Lb, corner, left tackle.

I can't see anywhere else.

Of course, if they use all the picks they will use 3rds on other positions, but they don't draft at expensive draft positions just to impress people.

Any of you draftnicks have ideas of players the Pats would draft or even draft up for next year? (not just lists)

It's not like them to not have targets for such obvious stockpiling in a certain year.

You never know, I guess, but these are the positions we will (almost) definitely NOT draft in round one:

QB, RB, WR, DL, S (probably not), C, G, RT (probably not)

That leaves:

LB, CB, LT (semi unlikely but if an elite one falls)

This, along with the fact that we go in with TWO #1 picks, is why I think it's more likely than ever that we'll draft an LB in round one.

It is what it is.

we may lose a few LBs to retirement next season, but I have no problem not taking a LB with woods, lau, rogers, and mays waiting in the wings. Even if we do take a LB in the first round chances are one of those guys could be starting next year.

Next year. Timely thread, I know. But I'm sick of looking at all these same titles and I just wanted to go on record saying - BANKING - that the Patriots will at long last use one of their 1st rounders on a young playmaking LB, as we see Tedy and Seau retire, and Vrabel, Colvin and Thomas climb into their 30s.

Book. It.

(That's your cue to say, "It's not even the second pre-season game and you're talking about the 2008 draft?!" Which is, in turn, my cue to say, "I'm bored. It's a good topic. And F off.")
OK, where's the

Pats draft LB in 2008 round 1: LOCK.

???

Probably equal or greater chance three of those guy will be gone next year.

You do realize Lua and Mays are very likely cut in the next 10 days, right? Rogers is likely headed for the PS, 'though he has an outside shot at staying as the last LB.

You guys do have a valid point that we're low on positions of need for next year's draft although if Samuel and Gay both leave then even two #1 CB isn't unreasonable and OT, both LT and RT, is quite possible depending how this season plays out.

Not to be different BUT I would go OL with one of the 1st rounders. A good OL makes the running and passing game better.
I don't think are OL is as good as our DL imo.
You win on the line guys.

I can't imagine the Patriots will let Gay leave if Asante's on his way out. In fact, thinking about it, it's very likely they wrap up Randall as part of their strategy in franchising/trading Asante.

Well Gay will be unrestricted so it's not a matter of "letting" him go if they can't agree on the money.

Nope, the Pats need to draft a left tackle to replace Matt "dim" Light before Brady ends up broken in half.
