Moss vs AD vs Welker vs Stallworth

Moss has certainly recieved most of the hype since the trade and during the pre-season. He certainly will be a valuable addition to the team if he becomes a "patriot type player".

Welker and AD have received some hype and Stallworth a little.

But, when the script is written for this season who will be the most important addition to the team of the four?

I'm going with AD. I think he filled a big need that we had that very few other could have filled.

Who is your choice?

I'll say Welker, because he has Moss and Stallworth supporting him. If Moss and Stallworth each break for one long pass during a game, then Welker gets wide open. AD will be great, but he's got more adjusting to do.

Thomas will be the most imp offseason acquistion.. I think Moss is a luxury, we were going to be fine with Welker and Stallworth, But if we lose Thomas we are in trouble at LB

Thomas is number two, but Welker has to be number one. Troy Brown was Brady's number one guy in his prime; now we have a younger, faster Troy who's nearly uncoverable in the slot.

Man...that was difficult, I love Welker in the slot, because teams will have to cover Moss with at least one deep.

Agreed. I think his impact may be a little lost with the big stats he allows Welker to get. I don't mean to diminish Welker's impact as he will be pretty good even without Moss, just not as good with him

Thomas...BARELY over Moss.

Thomas seems to fill a bigger need, and at the same time, lets Vrabel and Bruschi play at their ideal spots. That's going to be huge.

If we had only signed ONE free agent wide receiver in the off-season I would perhaps have picked that one (whether it was Moss, Stallworth, or Welker). However, given that we signed FOUR WR's, I think we could do without any one of them and would be fine with the other three, plus incumbents Caldwell, Brown, Gaffney and Jackson.

Therefore, I pick AD. Also, remember it was not our inability to score points which cost us the chance for Lombardi #4, it was the inability of our defense to hold an 18 point lead.

Hi all,

I would have said A. Thomas for sure before the TB game... but now I agree with the poster that mentioned he has some adjusting to do before he gets there. Although I HOPE that he can get up and running in our system quickly, I suspect that it may take him a bit longer to get to where we'll need him to be before he'll have the impact that I'm hoping that he'll have.

Given that, from all reports Welker has been that valve that we've been missing since the days of the tuck rule and Brown's decline... IMHO he just edges out Thomas (for now)... the whole "one in the hand" thing.

Moss. He will keep B. Sanders, T. Polamalu, K. Rhodes and others out of our backfield.

When Moss is on the field, the OL should be able to get a hat on everybody at the LOS, and Maroney should run wild

I voted AD.

While I think Moss is incredible, Stallworth can break open games, and Welker is reliable, AD makes the single biggest contribution.

You can take away any one of the three WR and I would still like our chances against anyone.

I have a feeling it will be rare for us to have Stallworth and Moss on the field at the same time. At this point, I like our WR corp, even if one or two of those guys is hurt, as long as the other one is full speed.

If all four of these guys stay healthy, the NFL is in trouble:rocker:

True... but in the short amount of time that we got to see Thomas out there it looked (to me... and it's only one man's opinion) like he had a few issues. Our defense is very complex... and very different from the Ravens D. One example of a slip up came on a draw right play... in the Ravens D (usually) Thomas would charge the QB regardless (hurry or sack if a PA or if the RB was "in" just to attempt to block the big fellow) while the end (primary) and/or safety (if Reed was in the box or coming up in run support) would make the play on the draw. In our DEF, the responsibility to close that side of the run usually (for all I know it was a called blitz from BB and the SS SHOULD have been up to cover the poss of the draw... but with how meat and potatoes the rest of the game calling was, I doubt it) falls to the OLB IF the DE is doubled (as was the case on this play)... Colvin had trouble with this when he first got here too, but has it down now.... it is NOT a knock on Thomas (who I think has been great in the past and hope will be great for us in the future)... but it is an issue when thinking about this kind of question. Biesel (sp?) was pretty good for the Chiefs but could never get our DEF down (given that the ILB is harder in our scheme than the OLB... but Thomas is trying learn both)...now Thomas is much better than Biesel... but it might take more than a second to learn the complexities of our defense.

I, for one... can't wait until he "gets it".... he should be a monster for us... whether he ultimately plays on the inside or outside of the LB corps... but it takes time to "get it"... and it might be a small hole for us until he does (if he does)... thus my vote.

Personally, I am getting a little concerned about Moss and his injury. I was not a big fan of trading for Moss to begin with (although I do feel it was a low risk and potentially high reward trade the way it turned out) in part because the guy has been hampered by groin and hamstring injuries each of the last two year and had a foot injury that hampered him the year before. It has been nearly two weeks since Moss last practiced. I can't help but be a little suspicious of how much he will contribute for the entire season.

I think Thomas will be the biggest impact because he will affect two other players - Bruschi and Vrabel. With Thomas taking the Mike LB, Bruschi can move back to the SAM and Vrabel can move back outside which are their more natural positions.
