Mike Carlson is amazingly knowledgeable about the NFL, he's written an article like that about every NFL team for the nfluk site over the off-season.

He is in the Studio for the live NFL games on Channel 5 here in the UK.

He was also on Belichick's Wesleyan lacrosse team.

There are two things to bear in the mind about Mike Carlson's analysis of the Pats. The first is that he is not a Pats fan - although I have no idea where his loyalties lie (if anywhere). The second is that he played lacrosse at Wesleyan with BB.

So he's neutral, and his analysis remains valuable, but on the other hand he loves BB, so is likely to see a genius at work where others see merely confusion.

But whatever, this is actually a pretty good analsyis of the Pats strengths and weaknesses. But those are all well-documented. I think he highlights the issues we are all worried about.

Thanks for the link.

Another great Mike Carlson contribution. He's even better as an analyst live -- laid back, knowledgeable and incredibly funny. He's also (it's obvious even in this article, although he does his best to disguise it) a Pats fan. He was at Wesleyan with BB and was a wide receiver on the football team (BB played center). He also, I believe, shares BB's passion for lacrosse.

Now that the NFL have killed NFL Europa, Carlson may be out of a job. They could do much worse than recruit him to help internationalize the NFL. He's a great ambassador for the sport!

Thanks for the link. As others have mentioned, this is a thorough, well-informed site. I recall seeing Mike Carlson on the "telly" while on one of my many trips to the UK over the last few years. With so much information, I've bookmarked this site.

Really? Do you know this.

I always assumed that he was because I find it hard to believe that anyone who isn't a Pats fan could be as rude as Mike C. is about the Jets. (On the other hand, he's certainly also very rude about Boston and its sports fans.)

I do know this, oddly enough. I met him once after I had interviewed crime writer Robert Crais (he was next in line for interview - genre fiction being his other thing apparently) and we had a longish chat about the Patriots. It was about the time of free agency 2006 and just before AV joined the Colts. We talked and he told me he was not a Pats fan but paid close attention because of the lacrosse link. We have e-mailed a few times since, and he's a decent guy with a very sharp NFL brain.

Well, you can tell him I'm a big fan ;).
