Re: Steve DeOssie: Rumblings that Samuel will be back this week

Not getting my hopes up. Didn't ESPN.com hear these same rumblings a week before camp started?

Re: Steve DeOssie: Rumblings that Samuel will be back this week

He said basically what DeOssie said almost word for word. In fact, both used the word "rumblings". Curran intimated that Samuel would have come into camp from day one, but wanted to make a statement. Curran blasted Samuel though. Curran felt that Samuel was stupid to threaten to hold out until week 10 and then just cave three weeks into camp.

Sounds about right. They tried to bluff, but the Pats hold the cards here and they do not panic.

Miss a couple exhibitions to save face and avoid injury.

Re: Steve DeOssie: Rumblings that Samuel will be back this week

If he comes back this week it would make sense, read where he would miss the first three pre season games.. and this would make him about ready for game 4.. thought at one time BB might hold him back or mess with him, but kinda think now BB will use him whatever way gives this team the best chance to win. One nice thing about this, is there has not been a lot of negative rhetoric on either side.. i.e. BB lied and all the rest of that crap.

Skip the two a days, in the 100+ heat?

Might be a little bonus in that.

If I were Samuel, I wouldn't choose to miss some of the two-a-days. Why allow yourself to miss some conditioning that will help you in January?

If Samuel returns, which I am still not at all sure of, it will prove yet again that being franchised is a GOOD deal for any player. It just takes them several months to figure it out. Where are all these alleged players who were franchised and then suffered career-ending injuries while franchised? More likely, they just get rich, and still sign big contracts the following year.

He doesn't need two a day's to help him in January. It's not like he is sitting home eating buttered doughnuts! lol-

He's working out in a nice air conditioned facility, somewhere in Florida. :)

If I were Samual thats exactly what I'd do. Who would want to put themselves through that? Wait I know Tedy, Junior, Welker, Brady I don't know if Brady counts though. :D

take it for what it's worth:

Steve Deossie said at the end of Sports Final

on ch 4 that "he has heard rumblings that the Asante Samuel situation will be cleared up this week or soon after.

Didn't quote any sources, but he seemed pretty confident about the info.

......grasping at straws?....maybe...

keep your fingers crossed

This shows the media knows absolutely nothing, to make statements without facts or sources is just bad.

You really don't like DeOssie do you?

Why should he state his sources? He'll never get anything out of them again if he leaks that.

It doesn't really matter. Obviously a resolution will be coming soon. Asante won't be sitting out 10 games, I can tell you that much. So he has a choice of either signing his $7.79M tender or negotiating a lesser one-year deal with some type of future agreement not to franchise him (unlikely).

So both parties have little choice in this matter. It's the $7.79M tender or bust.

And considering the way Gay and the defense played last night, there's really no longer a purpose for Asante's absence. He better get in, get into game shape, and be ready for the season or the season will pass him by...

I have nothing against DeOssie, what I don't like is media types pretending to have inside info and they really don't, a guy like Schefter states something and it is usually right on the money, that's the way it should be, and it's obvious from the lack of a resolution this week that DeOssie was blowing smoke, and I'm calling him on it.

Guess Curran was wrong too.

I have to respectfully disagree. This doesn't prove that being franchised is a good deal, it just proves that being franchised is a better deal than sitting out for a full year. Samuel would have significantly more guaranteed money right now in hand if he wasn't franchised.

Re: Deossie on Sports Final:"Asante sit to clear up this week" [merged]

Having Samuel back will only help to strengthen the defensive backfield, so let's hope Curran and DeOssie are right and he comes back this week.

I've seen Randall Gay make a few nice plays in the last two games. He came up nicely and held the edge on a running play last week and made a nice open field tackle as well. Last night he made a least one nice pass defense, so I'm hopeful about our defensive backfield will be a strength with the addition of Samuel.

Re: Samuel rumblings?? On sports final

FWIW -- on Ch 4 Sports final, Deossie said he heard "rumbling" that the Samuel situation is about to end and it could be as early as this week. He repeated " hearing rumblings" a couple of times.

Gas maybe?

I was expecting Samuel to show the 1st practice after the 2nd PS game. Guess I didn't hit the pool.
