In fact, both used the word "rumblings". Curran intimated that Samuel would have come into camp from day one, but wanted to make a statement. Curran blasted Samuel though. Curran felt that Samuel was stupid to threaten to hold out until week 10 and then just cave three weeks into camp.
Sounds about right. They tried to bluff, but the Pats hold the cards here and they do not panic.
Miss a couple exhibitions to save face and avoid injury.
Skip the two a days, in the 100+ heat?
Might be a little bonus in that.
If I were Samuel, I wouldn't choose to miss some of the two-a-days. Why allow yourself to miss some conditioning that will help you in January?
take it for what it's worth:
Steve Deossie said at the end of Sports Final
on ch 4 that "he has heard rumblings that the Asante Samuel situation will be cleared up this week or soon after.
Didn't quote any sources, but he seemed pretty confident about the info.
......grasping at straws?....maybe...
keep your fingers crossed
This shows the media knows absolutely nothing, to make statements without facts or sources is just bad.
You really don't like DeOssie do you?
Why should he state his sources? He'll never get anything out of them again if he leaks that.
It doesn't really matter. Obviously a resolution will be coming soon. Asante won't be sitting out 10 games, I can tell you that much. So he has a choice of either signing his $7.79M tender or negotiating a lesser one-year deal with some type of future agreement not to franchise him (unlikely).
So both parties have little choice in this matter. It's the $7.79M tender or bust.
I have nothing against DeOssie, what I don't like is media types pretending to have inside info and they really don't, a guy like Schefter states something and it is usually right on the money, that's the way it should be, and it's obvious from the lack of a resolution this week that DeOssie was blowing smoke, and I'm calling him on it.
I have to respectfully disagree. This doesn't prove that being franchised is a good deal, it just proves that being franchised is a better deal than sitting out for a full year. Samuel would have significantly more guaranteed money right now in hand if he wasn't franchised. If Samuel returns, which I am still not at all sure of, it will prove yet again that being franchised is a GOOD deal for any player. It just takes them several months to figure it out.
FWIW -- on Ch 4 Sports final, Deossie said he heard "rumbling" that the Samuel situation is about to end and it could be as early as this week. He repeated " hearing rumblings" a couple of times.
