Take it for what it's worth:

Steve DeOssie said at the end of Sports Final on channel 4 that "he has heard rumblings that the Asante Samuel situation will be cleared up this week or soon after."

Didn't quote any sources, but he seemed pretty confident about the info.

...Grasping at straws? Maybe...

Keep your fingers crossed.

Steve DeOssie: Rumblings that Samuel will be back this week

Steve DeOssie was on Sports Final just now and said he heard rumblings that there is progress with Asante Samuel and he could be back this week. Granted he could just be relaying what Tom Curran said this week on WEEI because he said the same thing.

Samuel rumblings?? On sports final

FWIW -- on Ch 4 Sports final, Deossie said he heard "rumbling" that the Samuel situation is about to end and it could be as early as this week. He repeated " hearing rumblings" a couple of times.

What exactly did Curran say?

You beat me to it. That is what Tom Curran said on WEEI this week. In fact, Steve DeOssie was the guest host for that interview. My guess is Curran is his source, but who knows.

Then I couldn't type myself into trouble! :p (Thanks for sharing with us out of towners!)

And then the circle will become complete.

You're getting slow Frank! :D

He did have that all-knowing smirk on his face, so hopefully, there's something to this.

Before the 3rd PS game, IMO. If he'd already made 20 million then maybe he'd stay out until week 10. But he hasn't made that much money, yet, and passing on $450K a week is too much to pass on.

Re: Steve DeOssie: Rumblings that Samuel will be back this week

What exactly did Curran say?

He said basically what DeOssie said almost word for word. In fact, both used the word "rumblings". Curran intimated that Samuel would have come into camp from day one, but wanted to make a statement. Curran blasted Samuel though. Curran felt that Samuel was stupid to threaten to hold out until week 10 and then just cave three weeks into camp.

That's about as reliable as a drunken sailor saying he's saving his beer money, didn't Samuel's agent or representative say they thought a deal would get done in July? His rumblings could be guys talking at a bar, he has no insight into the situation, don't hold your breath.

Makes you wonder:

Pats were in Tampa Bay...Asante is in Florida?

Except Tom Curran reported his "rumblings" story about Samuel on Wednesday of this past week before the Pats even left for Florida.

Thank you Rob, I hadn't heard of Curran saying that. In fact I don't think it was mentioned on this board, but I was gone for a couple of days.

Right...but would that stop Scott Pioli from being in Florida before the team?

No problem. I heard it in the car and forgot to post it the next time I was online. I can't remember anyone else posting the Curran thing either.

I actually don't know if anything really changed on the Patriots' front. As I said in the other thread, Curran made it sound like Samuel has been ready to end his hold out for a while, but just wanted to make a statement that he wasn't happy (and possibly miss a bunch of two-a-days). I think Samuel's camp is reaching out to the Pats and not the other way around.
