Wow. That's a little unexpected. I hope this means someone else is healthier and close to coming back.

I hope so. I don't think this signing has much to do with the health of our other tigtends. I've read that Kranchick has been struggling in camp. I don't know how bad he looked in the preseason game. I really didn't pay attention to him.

Some info:
Brian Jones
Ex-Jag
6-3, 258 lbs. Age: 25
TE, 3 years exp
Arkansas-Pine Bluff

From Scouts-> Comment:
Jones is an above-average athlete with good speed and quickness. He is competitive and tough. He has an adequate release off the line and is a one-cut route runner. His routes and hands are adequate. He is a better angle and position blocker than drive blocker. He can get initial position and wall off. But Jones needs to improve his power. In the running game, he lacks good functional strength as an in-line blocker. He lacks explosion and the ability to sustain. He struggles to finish and maintain position. Despite his athleticism, he is inconsistent catching the ball. His downfield setup and awareness aren't particularly sharp or refined. He doesn't consistently separate.

I believe he also played guitar for the Rolling Stones until they kicked him out.

Jones looks like a pretty strong guy in his picture.

TCF - Training Camp Fodder.

Reiss added a littl more info to his original post:

The 25-year-old Jones has played in 29 games with one start for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2004-2006). The 6-3, 258-pound Arkansas-Pine Bluff product has nine career receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown.

Jones missed the 2006 season after he was placed on injured reserve last August.

Didn't Kyle Brady play for the Jaguars during that time?

I think we should officially nickname him "Street Fighting Man," after one of Brian Jone's best songwriting contributions to the Stones.

Maybe having a bada$$ nickname will make Jones play tougher.

Why exchange one TCF guy for another one late in camp with zero on the playbook learning curve? Krank musta run over BB's dog or something.

Realisticly, they just decided that Krank had very limited upside and it was time to roll the dice again to look for a 7.

According to Breer Kranchick was struggling badly.

MINOR MOVE: In a move that shouldn’t even mildly surprise anyone, TE Matt Kranchick was cut today. Kranchick struggled in all phases of the game in practice, and the only thing even remotely head-turning about it is that it happened at a time when the team is thin at tight end.

I agree with Breer that the timing is kind of strange. However, if the guy was struggling that BAD, this move is not much of a surprise. Nothing to see here, IMO.

Wow!

I knew that BB/Pioli had to be persuasive to get Junior Seau to come back from retirement. But resurrection? That's really something!

When a guy is useless, he is cut. We have now added two TE's within a week.
He can compete with Rivers and Mills for the 3rd TE spot if one of the top three goes on IR or PUP (Thomas).

Never underestimate the power of BB to do things where football and the team's improvement are concerned!!!

Brian Jones to Kranchick on Matt's way out the door - "You can't always get what you want."

Hope he doesn't hit like a "factory girl":D

Rivers looked decent in his blocking when I remembered to look for him, I believe more then anything else that is where Kranchick was being killed.

If Jones blocking strengths are walling off then the zone blocking is a better scheme for him.

OT here Box. Are you watching tapes of these games? If so, could you tell me what you see in Rodgers play?

Apparently I'm on an island on this, (which doesn't bother me) but I saw Rodgers in a position where he obviously had the contain and he cut right towards the center leaving the outside open for a big gain.

I know he looked real active and piled up stats, but I'm assuming if he did it once, he did it before.

We know how the Pats play defense and discipline comes before tackles, so let me know what you see, if it's not a problem.

I can deal with you telling me I'm wrong.

BTW Rox, I did search for Rogers in you analysis posts. I agree he looked good early, but the play I saw was disturbing.

I've done the one defensive series to date, I hope to start a second here in a few minutes.

Wow, that's a lot of work. Greatly appreciated.

I'm not good at picking out individuals, but I printed a roster and focused on the LBs and DBs, so I have some thoughts.

I'm very interested in the young LBs, as I'm sure many are.
