Do you know when they say, "This is a presentation of the National football League."

At the end it normally showed Walsh Lombardi and BB.

Now, it shows Walsh, Lombardi and Dungy.

It was BB last year so it's not like they rotating whoever the last SB winning coach.

I would have figured Dungy would have had to win at least 2 more before that happened.

More like the NFL would have always preferred to have Dungy on the ad, but couldn't justify it until he won the big one. Let's face it, to a mass audience, the humble family man Dungy has more appeal to the gruff and terse Belichick. As much as I don't like the Colts, Dungy is an impressive human being.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Dungy.

Everything I have seen of him leads me to believe he is a great human being, and a great coach.

But from a football standpoint, I think it is premature to place him ahead of BB. Actually, extremely premature!

I shouldn't really get into this, but I'm not really into the holier than thou types.

They sometimes don't live up to the "image".

I can't say why Dungy would be a better human being than BB, except for all the publicity telling us so.

Gotta agree with Ray Clay here. After the SB Dungy was a guest speaker for a group I strong disagree with. His speaking in support of this group does not, in my opinion, make him a great man but a small minded hate mongerer.

I wouldn't go that far, ( You can if you have some knowledge, sorry to bail on you but i don't know anything bad about the guy), but I live in Tampa Bay and have to listen to this all the time, yet I never hear the reason he is better than the rest of us.

If you come to live down south from somewhere else you get used to people who depend on evanescent spirits to solve their problems.

Well, it looks like they skipped Cowher.

I don't know that he was speaking in support of the group so much that he was appearing to accept an award that they were giving him.

KKK?

The point is that since Cowher was never up there, I don't think it is a rotation of who ever the last SB winner was.

That's why I think it is odd that a one time SB winner would replace a three time SB winner. IMO Dungy is a great coach, but has not accomplished what BB has.

I was curious but afraid.

Now that Patjew has cut to the chase, what group?

Ha ha, I forgot.

Clayton Bigsby situation?

I really don't want to say for fear of completely hijacking the thread. Suficce to say it was a "family values" group. If you want to know more it was reported on deadspin.com

His involvement with this group really lowered my opinion of this person.

I didn't say one was better than the other. I said that Tony Dungy is an impressive human being.

Again, what makes him an "impressive human being"? Is American society so badly off that a person who happens to be a devoted cult member, who doesn't get into trouble with the law, and happens to win a SB due to fabulous luck, gets the title "impressive human being"?. I always thought someone needed to do something "impressive" to be considered "impressive" but it looks like I haven't caught up with the current trend..

Much debate last month surrounded lovable Colts coach Tony Dungy's appearance at an event for an anti-gay-marriage group (among other things) and whether or not Dungy would come out (so to speak) and endorse the group's platform. Well, he has. He "embraces" a ban on same-sex marriage.

"I appreciate the stance they're taking, and I embrace that stance," Dungy said. Local and national gay-rights organizations had criticized Dungy for accepting the invitation to appear at the banquet. The institute, affiliated with Focus on the Family, has been one of the leading supporters of the marriage amendment. "IFI is saying what the Lord says," Dungy said. "You can take that and make your decision on which way you want to be. I'm on the Lord's side."

Unbelievable. How ANYONE who professes to have devoted his life to the teachings of Christ can possibly think that this kind of thinking/behavior is appropriate amazes me. Jesus goes around embracing the lepers and the whores and the poor and the diseased, but yeah, he hates gays and doesn't think they deserved happiness and fairness.

"You can take that and make your decision on which way you want to be. I'm on the Lord's side."

What a passive-aggressive, arrogant, short-sighted, A-holey thing to say. I have some respect for Tony Dungy and I can't fathom the pain he's been through with the loss of his son. But his position is so decidedly (and OBVIOUSLY) UNChristian that it truly blows my mind.

WOW. So Dungy has his own personal religious beliefs and he's speaks to ACCEPT an award from a Christian Group and somehow he's pushing hate? You have got to be kidding me. Show me one sentence where Dungy says he "hates" gays. Infact show me ANYTHING where he said anything remotely close to that. Can't find anything? Because i can personally guarantee Dungy has never said anything like that.

It's funny how someone can be persecuted for sticking to their own values and beliefs, who has the right to tell Dungy who and who he can't speak for???

Dungy's quality as a person has absolutely nothing to do with the Colts Super Bowl. People have been speaking highly of Tony for years and years. Not one of his players has ever said an unkind word about him. Players that have never played for him speak highly of him as a leader and as a person.

You sound very closed minded to call him a cult member just because he is a Christian.

You say he hasn't done anything impressive...do you know this first hand? Read most any interview with anyone that has played for him or been associated him, they feel that he is an impressive person.

BTW, just because he doesn't support gay marriage doesn't mean he hates gays. Nearly everyone running for president holds the same stance.

That's the point I was making with Cowher. If you look at nearly any promo that they use for NFL items, they rotate people in and out to have variety and to be current.

Religions are defacto cults - therefore Dungy is a cult member. Muslims, Hindus, Christians, etc. - are all cult members.

However, back to the main point. You still haven't answered the question...why is Dungy an "impressive human being"? Telling me that "other people also call him an "impressive human being" doesn't answer that question. Please provide the BASIS for the claim because I certainly don't see it from ANYTHING that is publicly known about Tony Dungy. All I see is an average guy who happens to be a devoted cult member, who is well liked by football players and those traits do not amount to "impressive human being". Let me know if I'm missing something

I also noticed, and found it strange, that the reshot/computer edited the NFL Hoodie Sweatshirt commercial so that Joey Porter would be in Dolphins colors. If they reshot it, I wonder why they're tied to Joey Porter so devotedly.
