OT: Steelers' new mascot named....

OK, look again at that promotional photo. Every person in the frame is looking studiously away from the mascot atrocity...except for the guy directly behind him who, unable to avert his eyes, has clamped them shut. :)

Actually, it kinda looks photo-shopped.

They also need to be careful in the promo photos to picture him from the waist up in case Steely gets a woody.
It wouldn't a woody, it would be a steely also.

I hear Keegs is a big fan of Steely's earlier works...

Still...laughing...can't....stop...

BRILLIANT. I am actually typing this and laughing out loud. Coworkers want to know what is so funny. The Keegs reference...well...can't...stop...laughing...

We should start our own petition to keep Steely, and give him an eyepatch.

Steeler fans everywhere are checking their calendar in hopes that it's April 1st :)

So as it stands now, the Steelers have no cheerleaders but they DO entertain their fans with a guy named "Steely McBeam." Not that there's anything wrong with that....

Something tells me that this will be a case study in business schools in the future, along side 'new Coke" and the Edsel and other brilliant marketing ideas.......

I think Sesame Street should sue...

Nice porn star name.

He looks like Bruce Campbell.

Methinks this will go the way of the last mascot (according to AOL sports)

>>>>>This isn't the first time that the Steelers have had a mascot--Stevie Steeler was = a (thankfully) little remembered mascot from the 1980s and 1990s (that's him pictured), but hopefully Steely McBeam will be just as hard to remember in a decade.<<<<<<

Shoudda named him P-Rod.

The season can't come soon enough!

What amazes me is that they had 70,000 entries--and "Steely McBeam" was the best they could do.

I really want to hear some of the names they rejected. :D

May Mr. McBeam never mount an ATV during any of our games at Heinz Field.

Reminds me of Springy, Springfield's official mascot for the Olympics.

Now now - any similarity to the Simpsons is purely coincidental - its not like they are celebrating an inanimate metal rod or anything like that.
