When they set the current schedule scheme in motion before the 2002 season (when the NFL expanded to 32 teams), to determine home and away teams in round robin play between the various divisions, they simply divided each division ALPHABETICALLY.

I'm serious. Check out and compare the Pats and Jets schedules, the two teams at the bottom of the AFC East alphabetically. You will see that they always play the same teams that they have in common in the schedule on the road or at home. The same is true of Buffalo and Miami, who will always play the common opponents opposite of the Pats and Jets (i.e. if the Pats/Jets play team A at home, Buff/Miami plays them away).

Take any division in the entire league and divide them per the top and bottom two alphabetically, and the same is true in every case (you need to expand St.Louis to Saint Louis, which I don't think is a stretch).

It's too bad they didn't consider that this grouped each pair of the West Coast teams all in the bottom half of their respective division. They might have given some more consideration to geography.

I would think that it would be better if the games were back to back because there would be less travel time. I think there's a good chance of that...or hope.

I was at that game as well. We were up in the cheap seats and I was doing my best not to openly cheer for the Pats so as not to draw any attention to myself from the guys dressed like Road Warrior sitting a couple rows behind me.

When the Pats scored their first touchdown I instinctively began to stand up to cheer before remembering where I was. In the process of halting my celebration the full beer I was holding popped out of my hand and landed right in the lap of the guy sitting in front of me. As he turned around to kill whatever idiot had just ruined his day, i too turned around and faked wiping myself off. "F***ing jerks" i said and pointed to the Mad Max guys. The guy I just douched looked up at the guys in costume and thought better of pursuing the matter further.
