Rivers in mix
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

The new tight end on the field is Marcellus Rivers. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Rivers played for the Giants from 2001-2004, was with the Texans in 2005, and had signed with the Saints last season but did not appear in a game.

Welcome No. 82
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

For the second day in a row, a new player has arrived on the practice field during a Patriots workout. An unidentified player, No. 82, has taken the field. Looks a lot like a tight end, which would make sense considering the Patriots have been thin at the position.

Kyle Brady has missed a bulk of training camp practices, Benjamin Watson sustained an undisclosed injury in Monday night's workout, and David Thomas remains on the physically unable to perform list.

Prior to the arrival of the new player, Matt Kranchick and Garrett Mills were the lone tight ends on the field.

Re: Pats sign unidentified #82

Did the Broncos cut Daniel Graham already?

Re: Pats sign unidentified #82

I had said in another post that I would NOT be worried as they had not signed a tight end...well I guess they did...I wonder who??

Re: Pats sign unidentified #82

I've heard of this Rivers guy before. I guess he's good depth.

Great work..I started my post without knowing and after I posted it..the name appeared..THANKS!! Seems he is more of a receiving tight end as opposed to a blocker. At least he's healthy..and I am sure will get work in teh TB game.

A training camp body and then fodder for the "shadow roster" IMHO.

Ditto that.

Triple ditto that. This is just for practice purposes, to help the engine go until the actual players get back. YAWN.

Maybe if they'd start drafting a tight end once in a while, this wouldn't happen...

75 receptions, 900 yards and 8 TD's. We just hit the Gold-Mine.

PANIC TIME!!!
This means Thomas' injury is really BAD!!!

(Yah, it's still off season)

He's Larry Izzo, Asante Samuel and O.J. Santiago's replacement...or maybe just O.J.'s...

Well O.J. lasted less than 24 hours with the Pats.

Let's hope he's more of a Walter Rasby or Chris Luzar.

Sidebar--O.J. popped into my head, as I noticed that OAK signed him today!
