Sammy Morris' pass blocking abilities and media contradictions

Sammy Morris struggled once again in his pass blocking. Morris will need to improve on his blocking if he plans on seeing the field in passing situations this season.

Sammy Morris – Morris talked a lot in the offseason about his desire to assume some roles as a third-down back. He’ll need to improve in a couple of areas if that’s to happen. Earlier in the week he struggled with his blitz pickup against the linebackers.

RB Sammy Morris may not be great at anything, but he’s pretty good at a lot of things. Once again, the backup shone in blitz pickup drills. And he showed his ability in the passing game on a wheel route in 7-on-7s. Coming up far wide of the hash, Morris had Eric Alexander trailing, and sticking with him. The quarterback dropped the ball perfectly over Morris’ head, who anticipated it coming, stuck his hands out and caught it in stride without seeing it coming for more than a split-second

IMO, unless all the different reports say the same thing, good or bad, it needs to be taken for what it is. One persons opinion that isn't from a football coach or scout. I'm not a coach or scout either, but I'd still like to see it with my own eyes. Now if we had BB and the coaching staff's notes on a practice...

We know Sammy sucks at it because he's had to block Patriots' rushers while at Buffalo and Miami and BB still tried to get him here, twice. It might help if folks realized this is a drill and not one conducted within the friendly confines of an offensive formation with other bodies flying around and affecting the outcome. Dillon never got his blitz pick-ups working quite right until the season started, but by midseason blitzers learned he had a wallop or two packed away. For those buying the Casale perspective, breath deeply and mumble this soothing chant - In BB I trust, In BB I trust...

Eyewitness reports are notoriously unreliable and can vary greatly from witness to witness, according to multiple studies done for various criminal justice groups. No reason why that same unreliability wouldn't apply to football TC reports. Though these writers are paid to see more and better than the casual fan, their biases and momentary inattention often come into play when reporting without the aid of a film record to check their impressions against.

The Patriots.com guys are like fans on the field, and strive to be opinionated IOT drive fan interest and discussion.

Breer is the best at analyzing what takes place between the lines. If he says Morris is blocking well, I believe him.

What I have noticed is the complete lack of any comment on his RUNNING ABILITY. I mean he IS a RB isn't he. Isn't it a big concern this year is whether Morris will be able to give us 150 or so PRODUCTIVE carries this season, or be able to be an efficient RB in case of an injury to Moroney. If that is so, why don't we hear about how he is running the ball? Even our "inhouse reporters" have yet to mention this important factor.
