ProFootballTalk.com reports that Saints Pro Bowl left tackle Jammal Brown went down with what they fear could be a serious knee injury.

Brown's backup is a 6th round pick from a year ago.

Just wondering what kind of trade value Nick Kaczur could bring if Brown were to go on IR.

Re: Jammal Brown hurt

Probably a nice pick...there we go chasing the ambulance "TRADE!! TRADE!!"..."Have I got the deal for you!!" I love it!! (Not the injury...which is really sad...but all the quick speculation.)

Why Kazcur? The battle between him and O'C and now Britt isn't anywhere near over.

If we have good depth at OL why so quick to give it up, the future is this year for this club, we are one play away from worrying about our line. Trading Kaczur with 3 years under his belt would be stupid.

2008 called. It wants to remind you that Kaczur was drafted in 2005, not 2004.

So the Pats would be in the same boat as the Saints if one of thier tackles got hurt, no thanks.

Peyton is seemingly as savvy as Belichick in mining for OL talent to maximize coverage. Their line is far from elite, but more than serviceable for the game they play.

Amen. Trading the team's #1 RT and #2 LT just makes no sense - period, long break, end of sentence. :bricks:

Strief played well in his two starts last season when Brown was out and they just drafted that kid Bushrod who they are high on. Fortunately for the Saints they have Drew Brees who has a quick release and excellent pocket presence should this injury prove to be serious, and I would put Brown behind only Brees, McAllister, Bush, and Grant (maybe Smith as well)on the players they can't afford to lose list.

Actually, no they wouldn't. If the Pats traded Kaczur, they'd have Britt who is in his 3rd season with the team. Only if the Pats lost 2 guys would they be relying on a rookie.

lets take care of 2007 and he has 3 off seasons in the nfl , so please dont say things you dont know about, lets trade our players to set up 2008 when we already have multiple picks in the first 3 rounds, you are simply brilliant

Despite that..there HAS been a lot of trade talk involving him in the offseason...and rumors of partying a lot andof not having the greatest work ethic. NOT that I know that..but have seen things around about that. WHo knows how true and/or if the rumors are true..or started to get trade rumors going..to a team that wishes to "steal him"..or?? Who knows. We will find out. And last year with what did NOT seem like a strong OL selection had two trades..can't tell.

If I recall correctly, O'Callaghan earned starts in mini-camp while Gorin and Kaczur were rehabbing. Gorin made it back for Training Camp, but was losing his place to O'C while Kac was coming off an impressive rookie season as a swing tackle and then starter when Light went down. Kaczur started the season on the injury report despite not working in Training Camp, then won the starting RT slot once he was able to practice. O'C continued to get reps at RT until Urlacher rang his bell. Britt might have gone higher then round five if he hadn't been injured, but to date he's worked his way in as a viable reserve swing tackle, he got reps at starting right tackle after Kac and O'C had switched back and forth - and while he was at RT with the ones, Kac was at LT with the twos getting in LT reps that I hadn't read him taking before this in camp, typical Scarnecchia preparation and cross-training.

Tucker was traded after it became evident that Billy Yates was ready to back-up Hochstein and Mruczkowski. He's since moved ahead of Mruc, while Barthelmes and Elgin are battling to move Mruc aside themselves. I was surprised at Tucker's trade, I had him slightly ahead of Mruc, and I think Phil Savage screwed him over big time, but the depth inside was good and Tucker was non-essential for the Pats.

Both Tucker and Gorin were excess to need, and you certainly can't make a case for Gorin as a swing tackle, whereas Kaczur is a proven swing. Rumors swirl around here all the time, I just never saw anyone with any more creditability than you or I have in the media (well, me, you at least get published ;) ) speaking about Kaczur trade rumors. Until he is traded, he's #1 RT and #1 swing tackle, and still a little better at pass protection than O'C or Britt - something else Gorin couldn't say.

I'm in synch with every part of this forceful recital ... as in
tour de force.

Does this, however, mean you are dismissing Oldenburg?

(On my own recognizance, i'm dismissing Hilliard.)

Kaczur has also played guard and O'C is a stud when healthy. If anything Britt would be the trade bait since he has [some] starting experience and is continuously improving.

Oldenburg and Hilliard are fighting for the tackle spot on the Practice Squad. (On my own recognizance I'm not dismissing Hilliard.) Barthelmes and Elgin are fighting for the C/G slot. I haven't read of much cross-training for the rookies yet, otherwise Old/Hil might be considered for G. As I rank them:

LT: Light, Kaczur, Britt, rookies, Mankins.
LG: Mankins, Hochstein, Yates, Mruczkowski, Barthelmes/Elgin.
C: Koppen, Hoch, Mruc, Bar/El.
RG: Neal, Yates, Hoch, Mruc, Bar/El.
RT: Kac, O'C, Britt, rookies.

Mruc is headed for the shadow roster unless Yates' injury is serious. Elgin has made a good impression in recent press reports, but part of that may be Dante giving him a long look to check him out. Barthelmes and Elgin are both PS eligible...and if they want to make the roster need to beat out Mruc to be Yates replacement if called upon.
