Hill released
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

The Patriots announced the release of running back Quadtrine Hill today. Hill was a longer shot to earn a roster spot.

A bit from the team's press release:

Hill, 24, was signed to the Patriots practice squad on January 4, 2007 and was a member of the practice squad during last season’s playoffs. The 6-foot-2-inch, 230-pound running back was signed to the Patriots’ active roster on January 23, 2007. Hill was originally signed by the Houston Texans as a rookie free agent on May 4, 2006. He was released by the Texans on June 15, 2006 and was signed by the Chicago Bears on August 21, 2006. Hill was released by Chicago on August 24, 2006.

The team also announced that Donte' Stallworth was activated off the physically unable to perform list.

Shouldn't the last sentence of the report have furnished the heading?

The team also announced that Donte' Stallworth was activated off the physically unable to perform list.

I am thankful we won't have a top rusher on the team going by the name 'Quad.'

We lost Quadtraine Hill? We're screwed.

Well, there goes Maroney's backup's backup's backup's backup (?).

More like Heath Evan's backup.

Evans is Maroney's backup's backup's backup so that makes Quad Maroney's backup's backup's backup's backup

Well Maroney is a TB and Hill is a FB. :p

Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I finally get to say it...YES!!!

"WERRRREEEE DOOMED!!!!

...and he was fast becomming known as "The Q" in these parts too. A reincarnated Carlos Quintana if you will.

Remember in 2005 when the team got so desperate for runningbacks that Evans, a fullback, became their starting running back? Yikes.

So, what's the Official roster count now?

It doesn't appear that CJ or Troy have been placed on Reserve PUP; does that mean that we're now one over the max? Forgive me, but I seem to have lost count over the weekend.

P.S.: It would seem to make more sense to me to release either Dunlap or Jones, since it was Stallworth who was removed from Active PUP. Both of them have even less chance to make the 53 than Q.Hill had.

Typically when BB cuts people this early in camp they've either screwed up bad or they just physically or mentally dont have a chance in this system.

With all due respect to our fallen player Marquise Hill..In Patriots history I cannot remember a player with the last name of Hill who either made the teams final roster and ALSO was a part of the regular rotation and a meaningful addition to the team.

And in his first game, tore up his former team at 5+ yards a carry.
Double yikes.

Unless it was Q. Smith...but I think it was Quad Hill...
last week one of the bloggers made a point of contrasting his hangdog, lackadaisical, moping approach to practice with the upbeat energy, vitality, and engagement of ALL of the still-more-competive WR platoon.
