Washington's too expensive to keep (long term). We're better off with anyone else (caldwell). No way he makes the team. Horrible value...as of now. At least with Caldwell, he's inexpensive and can hang around for a number of years and continue to develop a rapport with Brady. Same goes with Gaffney; much better value.

I don't think Washington makes the team either but... he has some potential on special teams, more than Gaffney or Caldwell. Neither Gaffney or Caldwell are signed beyond 2007.

If Brown and Jackson (strangely I left him off the list for some reason) are activated then it gets really interesting. Expect to see #80 covering kicks at 36 years old.

If they ARE activated ... and #80 doesn't retire in a sniffly pre-season halftime ceremony ...
then BB & Co. did not choose the easy way out.

I would think that Gaffney and Caldwell would be easy resigns. I can't imagine too big of a demand for the players. They're pretty average. But, who knows? Other teams in the hunt for wide receivers almost might as well take their chances with the draft.

Most of the beat writers have been saying very few good things and a lot of bad things about Washington. In fact, Albert Breer seemed to indicate that Childress and not Washington was getting extra time when Moss was held out of practice.

With Stallworth returning, Washington will be pushed farther down the depth chart and will have fewer opportunities to prove himself worthy. I think he needed to take advantage of the time when Stallworth wasn't on the field to show he was worthy of a roster spot and he seems to have failed.

The only way the Pats would keep Washington next year would be if he redid his contract or was deemed worthy of a starting position. According to Miguel, his cap number next year is over $5 million. Not going to happen for a back up.

It would be a surprise if Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Gaffney, Caldwell or Brown didn't make the roster. I think Jackson, even if healthy, could go on PUP at the start of the season and activated later, especially if Moss or Stallworth develop hammy problems as in the past.

Not too sure about the chances of Childress and Washington.

I agree that both those guys would be a lot cheaper to resign than to honor Washington's contract. Depending on what happens with Stallworth and Moss (I think if either or both have a great year and we win the Super Bowl, that they may bolt for greener, as in dollars, pastures), I don't expect us to resign both. Both Gaffney and Caldwell have starting experience and probably will be willing to go somewhere else to try to get more playing time if they are buried at fourth on the depth chart here.

I say we keep both this year and will probably resign the better of the two next season. Which at this point in training camp appears to be Gaffney, but who knows as the season goes along.

Whoever we have, Brady will make them productive (assuming good chemistry). They just need to be able to run a route and catch the ball...and stay healthy. No more and no less is necessary.

Honestly I don't even know who Dunlap and Jones are, if they make the team file it under the category of surreal.
