Just finished. Wow.

It'll make you laugh. And cry. Sometimes at the same time. I was amazed at the brutal honesty, about his marriage, about his reaction to some comments by teammates, Kraft, Vrabel.

Patriot Reign undertold the story. Holley makes up for it ten fold with this one.

There was one glaring error, though . . . can anyone else find it ?

I happened to catch Tedy on with Dale and Michael this week, and the story sounded like a must read. He did talk about the "former teamate" who questioned him about his intention to return not just being a stall to get paid. Had to be TJ although Tedy will never say so because he did intimate the question was asked in person and TJ the budding mediot was the only former player who would have been around to ask it.

Also said how he called Bob Kraft and told him he was done. Then he went to see Bill because he wanted to tell him face to face. Felt really bad because at the Pro Bowl Tommy had said to them just before they were introduced (last because they were the Superbowl Champion pro bowlers) that no one had ever won 3 in a row and they had a shot to do it. He felt they made a committment to go for it right then and there. So he felt he had let his teamates down. Said he asked Bill if he could continue his rehab at Gillette, and when Bill said "you will always be welcome here" it really hit him that his career was over - that's what they say to all those guys, you'll always be welcome here - and he didn't like that. Which is why when the docs started clearing him he knew he had to approach returning as an option so he wouldn't regret not trying down the road.

He also said in hindsight he regrets not being more forthcoming with information he had at the time. He realized it would have made the process a lot easier on the fans. Said he always took what they said in the spirit of their concern for him, only fairly early on he had solid reassurance from ALL the doctors he was dealing with that playing football was not going to be any more dangerous for him than any other player. Cute line about how no Neurologist recommends you play this game, for obvious reasons, but they all agreed that he certainly still could.

Tedy gave very little hint as to who it was but the one hint he gave clearly said to me it was NOT TJ.

Nope. He drops one hint - he was a young player.

I can't help but think Samuel by the phrasing of "I thought you were doing it just to get paid". But other than the one hint I have no idea. Could have been Branch for all I know.

On the radio he clearly said it was a "former teamate" and said he was approached, indicating the question was asked in person and not in a phone call by someone who is now not here but still was in early 2005. Of course if he is now referring to that person as a former teamate, although they were not former in 2005, could have been Deion.

Branch was one of the players he specifically mentions in the book as having visited him - and the two hints he dropped were "young" and "a friend". With this additional information you mention, I think 2+2+2 might equal 6 here.

Actually, I intentionally left out any insight as it's just out and I didn't want to spoil it for anyone.

Bottom line, though, I'm not a reader but I read the whole thing last night. I couldn't put it down and I doubt anyone else will be able to. This is a truly substantive book. I feared it wouldn't be in depth enough - instead of went further than I ever imagined. The hopes, the dreams, the fears and the infallibilities of an NFL LB, a Patriots' LB, Tedy Brucshi. Just great stuff.

The book says :

"I remember a player I respect, a young guy and a friend of mine . . . (saying) . . . "Man, I thought you were just trying to get paid".

The book doesn't say a former Patriot but I have no reason to not believe MoLewisrocks and what he heard on the radio.

I did not hear all of the Holley/Arnold interview..it cut out in parts..and I missed a portion of that...but I really wonder..who..

Finished the book and enjoyed it, but like in "Patriot Reign" left me wanting more info and more depth about the Patriots. The Holley Books are a quick read, but always leave me wanting more.. really enjoy all the anecdotal info on how the Patriots are run and all the uniqueness of the Patriot Players, but this book is like an appetizer just wets the appetite.

I just finished reading the book also. There are many happy and sad moments intertwined throughout the book. It is an excellent read.

One of my favorite football parts relates to the San Diego playoff game. Tedy says that Rivers was running his mouth the entire game. Finally, Vrabel says to Rivers that he will never be as good a QB as Drew Brees. He points at Rivers and says you know it and then points at the huddle and says they know it too. Shut Rivers up...at least for awhile.

I found this book to be much better written than Patriot Reign.
