I thought David Thomas showed alot of promise as a receiving tight end last year and was hoping he'd make a big jump this season. Has anyone heard how he's doing in camp so far?

Terrible. He hasn't caught a single pass, hasn't blocked anyone in blitz pickup drills, and has yet to run a correct route.

We all have great hopes for him too.

The good news ... such as it is ... is that he should be
available around Week 10
... presuming he stays on the PUP list.

He'll be back before the end of camp. He broke his foot a long time ago; it should be close to ready by now.

We hope, but recall that he will be using that foot to not only cut while running a route, but as part of his base for wrestling with DL and LBs. I have no doubt Woicik & Co. did a great job of working around the injury to keep his strength up, but I'd take as much time as I needed, if I were the training staff, to give that bone a clean bill of health.

The other fly in the ointment came this morning during a walk-through practice session. Seymour, Jackson, Brown, & Stallworth were all out observing or working outside with the training staff. Mills was back outside observing and walking through assignments. Kyle Brady was seen outside doing route work and running under trainer supervision - but no Dave Thomas. That argues that he has further to go before being exposed to public scrutiny.

With my own expectations for this young man after his rookie season, I am more than happy to see him stay/moved to reserve PUP and come back after week six. We may not get a great year out of him, but he should be hitting his stride in time for the Playoffs when we could really use another Gaffney-like surge. My vote, don't rush him.

As I posted a few weeks ago he was wearing no cast a few weeks ago in the local Panera bread joint.

C.J. might have changed BB prespective on hurrying players in.

That's a positive, but as a guy who spends a fair chunk of his time with doctors and physical/occupational therapists, no cast needed for a quiet sandwich and the strength to push off against a 300+ DL in the trenches is likely a few more weeks with the trainers. It would be great if he showed up at practice Sunday evening, I'd love for Tommy to increase his comfort level with this kid, but I can wait.

The only reason he would not be back shortly is some kind of setback in his recovery.

Oh look on the bright side. He's performing like a second round draft pick wideout.

I can see you haven't been to a Panera Bread during the morning rush. Easier to hold back Ted Washington than hold your place in line.

The joys of country life, though my cat gets pretty pushy at breakfast time.

The same could be said for Brady, Seymour, and Thomas.

Might be with the weight on his foot..a bit harder for him to make it out in public with the others. A broken foot can take a really long time to recover from..might be RESERVE PUP for him.. wich means Mills had better get started quick OR it might be Kranchick who makes the team

From everything they've written about Kranchick in TC, it's hard to imagine the guy lands a roster spot. If it was me in the F.O. (and as they say, we're all lucky it's not) I'd rather take a player with better potential who's not 100%, like Mills, even if he hasn't gotten the practice reps and doesn't have the size to play the position. At some point Thomas will be back and Kranchick will get dumped, and I'd hate to see Kranchick occupy a useful spot.

Nothing personal against the guy, but roster spots are gold.

Yup, nothing more vicious than yuppie scum fighting for their entitled spot!

If Thomas starts on PUP and Mills doesn't show anything, think there is a chance our old friend with the smoking hot wife gets signed for early season depth?

I hope that Thomas can come back from this injury and become a solid #2 TE. I see Brady only being here this year and I also see the patriots drafting another TE next year. Watson and Thomas could be a lethal combination

Brady was signed to a no-tricks two-year deal, so I believe BB expects him to be here two years.
