Report:

I was able to make it back down there again before next Monday. I got there a few minutes late, but still staked out a great spot up on the hillside. It was pretty crowded today, I'm guessing somewhere in the 4,000-5,000 range.

-Early on, between drills, a spectator in the bleachers shouted "Spike it, Tommy!" as Brady was walking back. Brady responded by VERY affectionately spiking it to the delight of the crowd.
--EDIT: It appears it was actually "You gotta catch those Tommy" after he dropped a pass from a coach.

-Compared to last Friday, there was much less of the fundamental drills and much more of the 11v11 action, as well as 1v1 drills.

-In the 1v1 drills, Vrabel and Bruschi were probably the most manhandled of the group. Seau, although cheating a bit with some would-be holds, was able to hold his own against some of the quicker backs.

-Matt Kranchick (6'7", 265), who is just as large as Kyle "Godzilla" Brady (6'6", 280), was solid. He beat the LBs on two straight post routes and gobbled up the passes with his large frame. If Thomas and/or Brady aren't ready to go, Kranchick looks like he could step up.

-Maroney dropped a few passes early on. The first came in the QB and WR/RB/TE warmup drill, while the other came in the 1v1 drill, drawing some jeers from the crowd.

-Anam struggled some. On the punt return drills, Anam was a gunner and was able to get down to the endzone, but lost the ball in the blue sky and let it bounce right next to him and into the endzone. I also remember Anam screwing up something else, but I can't recall the specifics.

-The defense practiced picking off deep passes the returning them, which seemed to be more of a drill to warm-up the defense, as they all sprinted back on the run-back.

-Kight, also a gunner on a punt return drill, hustled down and made a nice diving catch/throw to save a touchback.

-Caldwell made a fantastic diving catch in tight double coverage on a bomb from Cassel. Take that, Keegs.

-Andrews picked off a Gutierrez pass in a 11v11 drill.

-Hobbs laid the smackdown on Welker on a skeleton drill after a catch.

-If I'd have to guess, some of the first cuts will probably be Anam, Dunlap, Bissinger, and Malone.

-Chad Brown was down at DE in the nickel package, a departure from 2005 when he was at ILB in the nickel, even in the playoffs.

-Malone and Seely worked 1v1 before practice. It looked like they were practicing catching the ball and getting the punt off.

-Kraft and Pioli, as they did Friday, had a lengthy conversation at midfield.

-After practice, BB lead a player's young son over to a water cooler for a drink then posed for a picture with him. Nice gesture.

-DBs signed today, but that's it. Brady stayed after to chat with BB then left. Bruschi, Moss, or Vrabel didn't sign either, meaning Rodney was the main attraction. He stayed after the horn as well to sign a couple more.

-More to come as I remember it...

Love it, great pictures Thank You for sharing.

Pats1 God Bless you man. Great info and great pics.

Nice write-up, liked the info on the first cuts. I was at the morning session, didn't get to see a lot of the action but some quick comments

- #63 looks like a wall (assume it is Moore, definately has the build to play NT)
- 51 (Bissinger looked skinny) and Chad Brown looked tiny, not much bigger than Izzo (who looks like a 14 year old when standing next to the other giants)

63 Corey Hilliard T 6-6 305 4/26/1985
63 Rashad Moore DL 6-3 325 3/16/1979

51 is Rogers, that little guy must have really worn you down!

Thanks again Mike.

I made it in for the afternoon session today too..

Quick note

-Early on, between drills, a spectator in the bleachers shouted "Spike it, Tommy!" as Brady was walking back. Brady responded by VERY affectionately spiking it to the delight of the crowd.

An assistant coach actually threw a pass to Brady and he dropped it, which prompted a guy in the stands to yell "You gotta catch those Tommy" Then he spiked it. Funny either way.

I couldn't get over the cheers everytime Randy got the ball. I swear if you closed your eyes you would think you were at a real Pats game the way people were cheering in the stands.

Also was the fat guy in the grey shirt near the sidelines Charlie Weis? I couldn't get a good view but he certaintly had the shape and wasn't Weis around town recently?

Ah, OK. I just caught the "...Tommy!" and saw the spike, so that's what I assumed he said. Very funny though.

I was wondering the same thing. The same guy was there on Friday too, so I'm not sure.

Great work. Not much on Meriweather today from any source. Can anyone who attended a practice offer general observations on him? Does he seem to be getting along with his teammates? Does he seem ****y or deferential? Is his quickness comparable to the other cbs', or obviously superior? Does he have hands of stone, or the ball-skills of a playmaker? More than any of that, what gut feeling do you have about him?

Meriweather was playing CB on the second team defense if I remember correctly. At one point I saw Rodney make Meriweather pick up his helmet and hand it to him. Thought that was pretty funny. I don't remember him being thrown at, so it's tough to say how well he really played. I forget who he kept lining about against, it might have been Kelly Washington.

I thought A. Thomas and Hobbs really shined today. Hobbs made a few plays and didn't give up many catches. He was lined up against Gaffney.

It's tough to gather any of that at this point.

Thanks for the info and photos. Great job!!!!

I saw that guy too at the morning session and wondered the same thing. It did look like Charlie pre-surgery. I don't watch much college ball, though - hasn't he kept some of the weight off?

Some of it, but not all:
