Meriweather at corner

size has nothing to do with how hard u hit(actually it does but not that much)

remember Asante Samuel jacking up Ricky Williams? Jeb Putzier? Stokley?

* That's true. And many of Samuel's 'big hits" in his career were perfect setups so that any size player would have looked like a big hitter. IMO, Samuel's big hits have been overrated.

also throw in Eugene Wilson

just about same size as Meriweather..a FS/CB. can hit hard..

I used wilson earlier as an example of someone that wasn't very heavy 195 lbs but hit very hard at first, than has broken down in the last two years. Was it from dishing out the hits or bad luck? I think it took a toll on him.

yeah broken down but how does his hamstring have anything to do with his hitting last season? its not like his hamstring couldnt take the pounding

broken arm? its all about position..if u land awkward or get hit awkward..it doesnt matter if your 300 lbs or 190.

these players have pads on. i dont see how hitting over and over can cause them to get injured more often than someone whos bigger.

i really cant think of an injury that can be caused from hitting a lot of bigger people over and over.

u can see it for a WR or RB maybe but defensive player..im not quiet sure.

How big is Ed Reed?

How big is Ed Reed?

5"11 200-205

hes played in 74/80 games

i think injuries are more luck than size.

hes a safety..theres a reason why he probably wont be in the box every play..thats size.

5'11" and a little over 200

OK. I'll go with Meriweather have the potential to be big enough, and durable enough to play safety. :rocker:

Tell that to Chad Scott.
Practice Field = Grass. Razor & Practice Bubble = Field Turf. Bad Landings = Crap Happens. Hopefully Chad just hyperextended or sprained his knee and isn't lost for the season.

Actually the practice fields are artificial turf as well.

There may be a new DB position being created: CB/FS, aka Big CB.

Meriweather, Wilson, Hawkins, Gay, Andrews, Scott, James and Anam seem to fit this position.

Samuel, Hobbs, Richardson and Williams are more traditional coverage CBs.

Jackson and Baker are more traditional FSs with inferior coverage abilities.

Harrison, Sanders and Mitchell are the traditional SSs.

Not surprising except for those who thought he was the future Rodney.

He played CB and FS in college and has the coverage skills.

Agreed - this is non-news in some ways - and indeed given the Asante situation was very much expected.

Even so I think the expectation would be to see him in nickle and dime packages - rather than expectations for signficant 1st string time.

The Pats would like DBs to be able to switch fro S to CB even during the play.

Having said that, I think Geno goes back to corner and Sanders/Merriweather are the safety tandem of the future.

I really think Wilson's wishing he didn't switch and that's why they selected Merriweather.

Let's hope this "Big CB" situation works out better than the one with Tebucky Jones under the Greir/Carroll regime.

I tend to think BB has a little better eye for how a player's capabilities can be matched with the system in place.

Oh, absolutely.

The players I listed under "Big CB" have all played the CB position with success in college and/or the pros.

Tebucky, of course, had no experience, successful or otherwise, at CB before the '98 draft.
