Rookie Brandon Meriweather has been getting some of his early work in practice at cornerback. While Meriweather was primarily a safety at Miami, he did start three games at corner last year.

It doesn't really matter where he plays, as long as he significantly improves this defensive backfield's chances against the Colts.

(Then again, the last time the Pats beat the Colts, Troy was at NB...)

The biggest defensive additions were Meriweather and Thomas. Thomas improves the LB's while Meriweather improves the DB's.

Also played strong safety last season before moving to CB since they really needed help at corner.

From what I remember he's built more like a CB first a free saftey second I doubt he could ever be the hitter Rodney is. He just doesn't have the size. I see him playing more CB than people think.If he were to lay alot of hard hits out I think he'd breakdown. Wilson came in at around 195lbs and put some viscous hits on people and he's been injured pretty much the last two years.

size has nothing to do with how hard u hit(actually it does but not that much)

remember Asante Samuel jacking up Ricky Williams? Jeb Putzier? Stokley?

injuries are just bad luck.

Meriweather will bulk up as will every player that has when they come into NFL

Many scouting reports had Merriweather projected as a CB in the Pros. He might be better off there. As of right now, he has a better shot of making an immediate impact there over FS with Wilson and Hawkins already there.

A reminder to some who may not be astute students of BB's training camp philosophy. BB uses camp to assess a player's versitility, trying him out at positions different than he is sloted to play as a starter or even as a backup. That way he can better assess team depth and make a more informed decision on whom to keep. Starters and backups DO get injured. Sometimes he finds a pony under the pile; sometimes it's just a stinkin pile.

Meriweather at CB in T.C. was bound to happen, no matter what the deal with Asante or Chad Scott. I mean, I'd love to see him become a great corner, but to me this just seems like the usual breaking a guy in, trying to develop roster flex, etc...

"Hit Stick" (Meriweather's nickname), will be a great addition, and versatility was one of his biggest selling points. Given the Pats' injury history in the defensive backfield, we will need everybody we carry on the roster at safety and/or corner this year, if previous years are any indication.

Of course, things may start changing on the injury front, now that the facility is FieldTurf™ rather than PittedManure™ -- it would definitely be nice. Whenever I mention this possibility or anything like it, somebody who watches every game, practice, and shopping trip the Pats take reminds me of a bunch of injuries that happened elsewhere, or "because" of this or that having nothing to do with the field.

Well, I keep hearing that. I also don't believe in coicidence in that kind of volume. Now that something has changed, I like to believe it possible that we can go through a season without going through four strings of DBs. It would be nice.

The point's been made that every star had to align exactly right for the Colts to make their run this year - for the Pats, it always seems to be whether there is enough adversity to keep us out of the super bowl. A drop in the defensive backfield injury rate would be a very nice christmas present one of these years.

Eh well. It's July, everyone's still healthy, and the world is our oyster, with only one superstar holdout clouding the horizon. Enjoy all!
