The big guy looks like he lost 30 pounds from his belly (seriously) and training camp has only just begun. I'm not going to go as far as ****erson did (who said he looks sexy) but the big guy looked good and much healthier. He's still plenty bulky enough to be a top NT without that monster fat belly.

Thats bad if he is getting slim IMO. You want a fat slob in the middle of your 3-4.

I'm happy for Vince. He is a family man, and I hope this improves his prospects for long term health after football. As for football, it can only help.

He's still a BIG man, having an extra 30 pounds of belly fat doesn't make him a better NT. Believe me, his legs and overall girth are still big - he's a huge man without the belly.

Re: Anyone See Wilfork on NEST ?

That puts him at what then, like 310 or so? I don't know, that is good news for him health wise, but is discouraging in my opinion in terms of him playing NT. The more girth he has the better.

I don't care what he was listed at last year, he wasn't 340. I'd say he's 330-340 now.

That's true, the listed weights are probably not always so accurate. Still, just to be safe (selfishly speaking for the good of the pats, not Wilfork personally), I would like to see him gain a little back.

Judging from the photos provided by folks who attended today's camp, Vince has all the "bulk" he needs to do his job. If he's slimmed down then God bless him, he'll feel better and this may be similar to what happened for Ty Warren last season after buying into Coach Woicik's off-season plan for him. That would be really sweet to see Vince make the kind of leap Ty made last season.

Agreed. I always smiled when I saw that 320 listed weight. This has got to help his overal conditioning.

Re: Anyone See Wilfork on NEST ?

Maybe he's been using ab roller or somethin'

Re: Anyone See Wilfork on NEST ?

NT/DT who slim down almost always have a better year. Quickness and durability are more important than weight.

Re: Anyone See Wilfork on NEST ?

Weight is all very well but it is useless if it is just fat, as it will slow him down, make him more tired and so on. I bet your average centre would prefer to push around a 340 lb slob than a 300-310 lb guy who has less fat and more muscle. He has probably turned quite a bit of that fat into muscle. Good on him and as Pony Express said, it will help him live longer.

Re: Anyone See Wilfork on NEST ?

Vince has improved his game every year here and also a atheltic NT is very very hard to find.We have seen vince running around unlike a NT.He is going to have a monster year.

Last year DL could not get to peyton and a little jump i think he will have it along with a healthy seymour. He played with a monster cast on his entire right hand and we know hehad a knee surgery after the AFC champsionship.

He looking ahead for life after football and and competing on Dancing with The Stars.

If that happened, I might even watch the show.

Terrific news for Vince -- I had been getting worried as he looked more and more spherical. This hard work should benefit his personal health and his football health (stamina, knees, etc.) Besides, nobody beats an OL through the overwhelming force of his belly. :)

I always think of a young Dana Stubblefield as the ideal DT weight distribution. Not a huge gut, but absolutely colossal butt and thighs. No way to knock that man down, he was like a weeble.

Even in Britain, that should be spelled "center," Mr. Cat. ;)

Seriously, though, I agree with this--if it makes Wilfork stronger (and I'm sure Captain Caveman--er, Mike Woicik--was monitoring Wilfork along the way) and healthier, I'm all for it.

Re: Anyone See Wilfork on NEST ?

On the short interview he did mention that the realization that his parents both died in their 40s was a factor.

Good for him. Wilfork's game is all abouth strength and athleticism. His girth is not what makes him a borderline elite NT. Dropping 30 lbs should improve both aspects of his game.

Now let me speculate on something.

Last year we struggled to reach the QB when it really counted. Our LBs are older and not as fast as they were during the '03-'04 runs. Clearlyour defensive line is now the cornerstone of the defense.

Perhaps Belichick is taking a page out of the Wade Phillips playbook, and will incorporate more defensive line pass rushing into the defense. I'm not saying we suddenly morph into a Pittsburgh or San Diego style 3-4, but we have the right personnel to blitz from the front 3 and to get to the QB. We just haven't done much of it.

Would be a nice wrinkle to a defense that is more versatile than ever.

Well speculated. :rocker:

I know if I lost 30 LBS, I'd be wicked pissed!
