I mean he is holding up the signings of several rookies within his range.

Including our Brandon Meriweather. Agents are going to try and get more money for their picks by saying look at how much Quinn got, because we all know the Browns will eventually fold and give him more than his slotted price.

Basically sending a mini ripple effect through other teams rookies.

Considering the bust rate of 1st round QBs... and quarterbacks out of Notre Dame... and considering the franchise he is now with... I don't blame him for trying to get the most now he can.

I dont even think thats the case. I think his agent (condon) has brain washed him into believing he is actually worth this much money no matter if he was taken #1 or #240.

yeah, I am upset about brady quinn. He is over-rated and fell to the last of the first round. his little autograph stunt that PFT really got my goat where fans had to pay 75-225 for his autograph.

Looking at transactions today, Spencer signed with the Cowboys, Ross signed with Giants,

I feel that he (meriweather) will be signed like most people on the board have said. (one of my posts was a fear of him not signing)

just my 2 cents.

Yeah... Brady Quinn really should compromise himself and settle for less money so that other 1st rounders get signed in time. Because that should be his priority... not his contract and his team, but all the other 1st rounders....

Yeah, I never understood this, "Sure I was drafted at 22, but I should have been drafted third overall, so I should get third money" bullcrap. SIgn where you are slotted. If you suddenly become a superstar, then work on a raise. Brady did. Delhomme did. But the fact is that he was drafted 22nd, not third.

The thing is, if he holds out, he is worth less, not more, because if he doesn't get reps to start training camp, he isn't going to get them if he comes in a couple weeks late, and his career is bumped back a year.

Well, it's the Brown's problem.

and he probably won't be that good anyway, so he better get all the money he can get now

Yeah that Montana guy was a real bust... and so was that other fella named Theismann...

Reports are that he is not asking for unreasonable money up front, but he wants a deal that covers him in years 3-5 if he does indeed become a franchise QB down the road. Ya really can't quite blame him for that.

quinn is over-rated. sign the dollars set at pick 22 and prove yourself.

It's still not really the way it works. It does make sense. But he has to earn that franchise spot first, and then after the five years he can cash in.

Actually, it kind of is the way it works. Every year some first rounders - especially quarterbacks - hold out. Leinart did it too. It's not a big deal.

very true good point.

Isn't it amazing how easily people are willing to throw away other peoples' money..?

This is not the NBA. There is no "set" contract slotted into every spot of the first round. I will actually concede the point if he is still holding out by week 3 of the preseason (IIRC, for comparison, Leinart played in game 2 of his first preseason in Foxboro against the Pats).... until then, it's just the same bluster we see and hear every year....

I mean where they want a lot more money in their final years, not just simply holding out. Quinn is asking too much. They can ask for a little more. Leinart was more indisputed to be the future of that franchise anyway and he was picked 11 or something.
It just seems like they are holding out for too much in the later years of the contract. and i guess since i don't like him, i just don't want him getting the money. Especially since poor ole Cleveland is trying to rebuild. They gave up their first round pick next year and now they are suffering for it.

Quinn's signing has little to no bearing on Meriweather. Last year's pay scale, and the signing of other non-QB 1st rdrs is enough to figure out fair compensation. If Meriweather doesn't sign, it seems unfair to blame Quinn. That said, Quinn really disgusted me with those queer photos released around draft time (IMO dirty tricks by Miami's FO to sour the angry Dolphin fan base on him, but disgusting nonetheless) and his charging of over $200 an autograph to kids last week. BTW, if my speculation about Miami FO is correct, how awful are they? Combine that with the Culpepper travesty, and it paints a nasty portrait of goody two shoes Mr. Mueller. Of course my speculation is based not on evidence, but on my understanding of how desperate, unscrupulous men in power tend to operate.

Quinn is seen as every bit the future of the franchise in Cleveland as Leinart was in AZ. The Browns spent the #33 pick in this year's draft plus their #1 next year (likely a top-10 pick) to get him.

I think you've just summed up the issue perfectly. People that - for whatever reason - don't like Quinn are rooting against him. Not because of anything particularly egregious that he's actually done...

I think it's a wee bit early in the process to be lamenting the suffering of the Browns for this selection...

As you said, the last quarterback of note out of Notre Dame was Montana.
Maybe you could count Beuerlein. I don't know why that's worth a .

Does it disgust you when other athletes (either current players or top draft picks) do the exact same thing..? Or is Brady Quinn the only special one to incur your criticism...?

im dissappointed with Quinn

poor kid dropped so far..really wanted to play for Browns

now guess what..hes complaining about money. he says he was worth a top 10 pick. i guess any player can say that. u werent a top 10 pick..face it. you were 22nd or w.e. so instead of whining about it, be happy your in the NFL and on the team you wanted to play for since you were a little kid

That's because ND, for most of the past 25 years, ran an option offense. A guy like Tony Rice was a great college QB but would never be seen as a pro prospect.
