Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

Don't lose any sleep over it.

Anyone worried about Meriweather not getting signed and do you feel that Quinn balking at #22 will have any influence?

Opinions please.

Thanks.

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

Quinn's balking shouldn't have anything to do with Meriweather's signing. I think Asante's holdout has more to do with it, if at all.

He's slotted and has no leverage - it has nothing to do with Samuel

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

We usually wait till right before training camp to sign them.

We watch what players around that pick do.

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

Quinn has nothing to do with Meriweather. You're basically saying that Meriweather might jump off of a bridge because he sees someone else doing it. Besides, at least Quinn has the arguments: "I am a QB and more valuable than other guys" or "you thought I was worthy of being drafted much higher and I think I should be compensated justly" (I'm not saying they're winning arguments, but at least you can make them).

Regardless, I'm not concerned. This team is good enough that it doesn't need a rookie. Meriweather has no leverage.

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

I come here every hour looking to see the news that he has signed.

I am a bit worried.

We have all seen first hand that guys, especially rookies, that mis any significant time at camp tend to contribute very little in there first season.

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

Not worried about Merriweather and not worried about Samuel either.

No. I just thinking he and his agent are waiting to use every bit of leverage that they can, but will ultimately be there when he needs to> Can't blame him either!

Maybe Brady Quinn ought to tell them to save some of that money and fix the plumbing at the Browns' stadium. As if all the staph infections wasn't enough.....

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

I'm not worried. I think he'll either sign by tomorrow morning right before TC begins or over this weekend sometime. I don't think he'll miss that much TC if at all.

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

No not worried...he has a hammy so he might be PUPed anyway. No signs of any kind of long holdout..no problem at all.

From Albert Breers blog:

Don’t worry about it …

Brandon Meriweather remains the Patriots only unsigned draft pick and with that, added to a hamstring injury that kept him from veteran minicamp, there might be reason for concern as to how much he’ll be able to contribute. So we’ve compiled the Patriots’ history of signing top draft picks during this regime’s tenure (they gave up their 2000 No. 1 for Bill Belichick, which turned out OK.) Here you go:

2001
Reporting dates: July 20 (Rookies), July 23 (Veterans)
Pats pick: Richard Seymour (sixth overall) signs on July 23 – six years, $14.3 million, $4.8 million bonus

2002
Reporting dates: July 22 (Rookies), July 25 (Veterans)
Pats pick: Daniel Graham (21st overall) signs on July 20 – five years, $6.825 million, $1.4 million bonus

2003
Reporting dates: July 20 (Rookies), July 23 (Veterans)
Pats pick: Ty Warren (13th overall) signs on July 21 – six years, $21 million, $6 million bonus

2004
Reporting date: July 29 (Rookies and Veterans)
Pats pick: Vince Wilfork (21st overall) signs on July 19 – six years, $18.05 million, $5.825 million bonus
Pats pick: Benjamin Watson (21st overall) signs on August 16 – six years, $13.5 million, $4 million bonus

2005
Reporting dates: July 20 (Rookies), July 28 (Veterans)
Pats pick: Logan Mankins (32nd overall) signs on July 25 – five years, $6.4 million, $4 million bonus

2006
Reporting date: July 28 (Rookies and Veterans)
Pats pick: Laurence Maroney (21st overall) signs on July 28 – five years, $8.735, $6.13 million guaranteed

WHAT IT MEANS: It means the Patriots have avoided holdouts with all but one of the seven first-round picks taken under Belichick and Scott Pioli, though Seymour and Maroney came right down to the wire. So even if something doesn’t happen today, don’t be surprised to hear about this thing getting done tomorrow night to get Meriweather in town for the open of training camp on Friday at 8:45 a.m.

Many of the first round picks under Belichick and Pioli signed after rookies reported to camp and still got in for the first day of camp. No need to worry yet.

Good point. Even if he holds out it's just that much longer that hammy has to heal :rocker:

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

I just can't wait for the season Thanks guys for all your insight.

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

Each year it is the same thing. Will he sign? Each year, the rookies are signed in time (with the exception of Watson). So, I don't see problem there

I am not worried, I don't think he will start game 1 anyway (maybe by game 3 or 4). The slight worry I have is the history of people who miss camp tend to have a higher injury rate but in general I am not concerned at all.

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

It's definitely the slot game. As of last night, Beason (25th pick) wasn't signed. I'm sure it will fall into place, as there's not a lot to negotiate in this situation and any agent recommending a holdout is not doing his job.

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

Weird things going on with the placement of posts lately - anyone notice?

Regardless - here's the Quinn situation.

He's going to be slotted in the 22nd pick - but he wants a contract that, should he win the starting QB position and perform well, pays him well. So basically its arguing about incentives.

That's expected at a position like QB - I highly doubt there will be the same dynamic over incentives for Merriweather.

Re: anyone worried about meriweather ?

Aaron Ross #20 pick signed a 5 year $13.5 i think and Anthony Spencer #26 pick signed aswell

so that will help a lot knowing where Meriweather will be.

things are picking up around the league with rookie contracts
