OK, I'm finally HDed :)

To get as many Pats games in HD as possible I believe I need to get the SuperFan package in addition to Sunday Ticket . . . can someone please verify this ?

Thanks.

Correct. I think it's around another $100.

Yes. Without Superfan, you won't get any NFL HD (except ESPN and, I think, NFLN). A couple years ago, you couldn't even get the local games on HD, which I imagine was quite frustrating to some people.

OK, thanks. What's another $99 compared to the pit I throw money into for my DirecTV and high speed internet ? :D

how is the internet?
I play poker so if it breaks up at all or has any interruptions it is worthless to me.

I'm moving into a new house soon and need tv/phone/Internet and im thinking about DTV too.

You can get the Pats games in HD on the local channels IF the local channels are showing them in HD.

However, to answer your question, yes, the guaranteed way to get them in HD is for the SuperFan package.

I will be so glad when that goes away in 2009 as ALL broadcasts will be in HD and not in SD.

You got it right......to get Pats on HD and just about all other NFL games for another $99 is well worth it.

Sundays in the fall are so freaking awesome in my house.

Home games: We go to the games and living in Foxboro, we are home fast, usually just as BB is taking the stage for his post game interviews - and then it's the rest of the NFL ticket for me.

Away games or days when Pats are prime time - (not on Sundays) - we just gather around my THREE HD's TV's - yes, with three boxes for Direct TV and we have one Comcast HD for blackout games (these are only Pats games).

We start early - 8:30 AM for the ESPN match-up show, then watch Outside the Lines and Sports reporters waiting for the 11:00 pre-games shows on ESPN, FOX & WBZ -TV.

1:00 - 11:00 PM - non stop football, 1:00 games, 4:00 games and Sunday night game, followed by all the highlight shows: NBC, ESPN (Blitz - which is what is left of Primetime), Ch 7, Ch 4, and the new NESN highlight shows right up until about 1:00 Am when eyes have bugged out and head/body crave sleep.

I LOVE NFL FOOTBALL - can anyone top my schedule??

Pats games blacked out? HUH? Since when? I got all the Pats games last year, though there were some NOT in HD because CBS didn't broadcast them all. But, being in Foxboro, you should get them on the local stations in HD.

I don't have internet through DTV, I have it through the cable company - at $60 a month; I can't get DSL :(

Yeah, I watched my first baseball game in HD last night - I didn't want to change to a different, non HD, channel. It's just teasing me imagining seeing Bill, Tommy, et al, in HD :)

I got Superfan for free about a month or so ago, they were running a special, if you signed up for Sunday Ticket during that time, you got Superfan for free.

I saw the ad and called Direct TV, I said that I get the Sunday ticket automatically renewed every year, so could I get Superfan for free, and they agreed, so I got it for free, if you got the Sunday ticket last year, give them a call and see if they will give it to you for free.

Not on my DirecTV... I don't have any of the local stations in HD so that means no playoffs or Super Bowl in HD on DirecTV. Nor do I have NESN in HD on DirecTV. All those factors led me to spend the $50 to get cable.

Quigon, where are you that you don't get local channel? Or are you just not paying the extra $5 a month for it?

As for NESN in HD on DirecTV, its coming. Not that it matters because you have to have the MLB Extra Innings package to watch the games unless you are local.

Sorry - I meant to say that local games are blacked out on Direct TV's Sunday ticket when a local channel carries the game. That is true whether it is HD or not.

That is a primary reason why I have both Comcast and DTV.

Again, I don't understand why you would bother with Comcast unless the Boston Channels are broadcasting in HD. If you get the local channels package from DirecTV and have the DirecTV HD package (which it sounds like you do), then you get the local channels IN HD as long as the local channels broadcast in HD.

In other words, I think you can save yourself about $40 a month by dumping Comcast and just going with the local channels package from DirecTV. Unless there is another reason why you have Comcast.

I am in metro-west and, just to be clear, I didn't say I don't get the local channels, what I said was I don't get the local channels in HD from DirecTV.

I've been hearing that for a couple of years now. I'll believe it when I see it. If DirecTV ever gives me NESN and the local stations (4, 5, 7 and 25) in HD, then I will dump Comcast. Until that happens, I am keeping Comcast.

OK - I can clue you in as to why I keep both. Back before Direct TV was offering locals in HD, waivers were required from the FTC in order for Fox, CBS & NBC to broadcast HD feeds through to me in Foxboro (ABC refused to grant a waiver, I have no clue why).

So, if I go with Direct TV local HD package now, I will lose my feeds which happen to be NY for CBS & NBS and LA for FOX. This means I can get additional programming broadcast into these markets - such as certain baseball, hockey and other games as well as pre-game shows like Jets, Boomer Esiason's show and more.

Therefore, I am getting my local channels through Comcast HD and everything else through Direct. I also have an occasional tree problem which blocks the Direct TV signal on a few channels from time to time (go figure), so to only go with Direct is still a concern. I like Comcasts ON DEMAND and getting NECN (New England cable network news - they have some sports shows I like during times that doesn't;t conflict with other sports shows). I MUST have DirectTV for Sunday Ticket, so there you have it.

I figure for the extra $500 a year, why not......nothing can interfere with my football and the pursuit of all coverage near and far..LOL.

Huh?
I live out in Leominster. I have DirecTV and I get channels 4, 5, 7, 25 and ESPN in HD, since last September when I first got an HDTV.

Hey I may be wrong... one of the side effects of having Comcast HD is that I don't really notice or care if/when DirecTV makes HD additions. They may very well have added those stations over the past year and I just never noticed. My ESPN HD is channel 73. What channels are your 4, 5, 7 and 25 HD...?

OK, I didn't read the entire thread, so I presumed you had DirecTV.
