So much for Polamalu being the heir apparent to Rodney

Dirty?????

I would LOVE him in a PATS uni. (and I don't want dirty players here)...

I was excited to see Polamalu being a free agent next year because he would be an excellent lift to the Miami defense. After about 10 minutes of thinking about it, I realized there was no way he was getting out of Pittsburgh, they're smarter than that.

As for the dirty comment, I know you guys are going to hate this, but I don't care. Rodney Harrison is twice as dirty as Troy.

When the hell was he ever "heir apparent to Rodney"? Fantasies of a few Pats fans don't count man. According to Rodney, his heir apparent would be named Sanders. And it ain't Bob.

i agree. its sanders

More BS from you, Aqua. Please show your proof that Harrison is "twice as dirty" as Polamalu. And please don't be ignorant enough to list that stupid biased pole regarding dirty players because Tom Brady got a vote on that. Not to mention that Kevin Mawae is known for being the dirtiest player because he was ALWAYS going for D-linemen's knees. Harrison was just a hard hitter. And NO, Harrison didn't INTENTIONALLY got after Green's knee.

Aw, damn, will this affect our acquisition of Larry Johnson?!?

What I found interesting in the Taz deal was the numbers. According to reports he signed a 4 year deal for about $30MM with about $15MM Guaranteed over the contract.

This sounds familiar. Isn't that in the same ball park that the Pats were offering Samuel? Troy has a couple of probowl selections and is concidered among the top 5 players at the position. I know that they play different positions, but I find it interesting that Polamalu would sign for a reasonable deal while Samuel keeps holding out for the MONSTER deal.

BTW-I'm still waiting for some team to come foreward with an offer close to what Samuel wants. Remember that he's a FA and can negotiate with any team he chooses. I haven't heard of a SINGLE team that was willing to give him the $30MM in guarantees he supposedly is demanding.

This year we have the richest deals ever given
to a CB
to a safety
to a defensive end
to a defensive tackle

Last year we saw the richest deals ever given
to a guard
to a tight end

We now know the max that Wilson will be asking for;)

It says that Polamalu signed an "extension" but doesn't say how long there was left on his old deal. Does anyone know? (*cough* Miguel? *cough*)

2X as dirty as someone who is not dirty= not dirty x 2.

Thanks Aqua for citing that Rodney is a very clean player.:rocker:

I think it said until 2011 which will make him 30 when he is a FA.

Thanks, but I think that that is the length of the new deal. I was curious how far before the end of the old deal the extension got done.

The league is making alot of loot.

1 year, he was scheduled to be a free agent after the 2007 season.

From a Pats perspective, looking ahead at 07, IMO the only name that may warrant an early extension is maybe maybe Randall Gay. He could likely be signed for cheap money and help add some stability to the CB core (or the IR list). The full list of 07 free agents is below.

Looking at the future Free Agents highlights how well the Pats are managed and how quickly the rookie contracts go by. By the time they learn the ropes they are free agents.

2009
- Ty Warren is a free agent and could be extended a year early ala Seymour
2010
- changing of the guard, Seymour, Wilfork, Mankins, Hobbs, Watson, Thomas all become free agents
- I would expect at least 2-3 of these players to be extened early

JUST an FYI - Billy Yates signed a 3 year deal in March. He will not be a Free agent at the end of the season.

Very helpful post.

I'm now a big fan of the Patriots extending players early. I'm convinced that they could get better value, even if it means not enforcing the full extent of the rookie contract.

An article by Reiss with an interview with Daniel Graham makes the point:

http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/articles/2007/07/15/timing_pattern_misfired/

(Has there been a thread discussing this article. It's certainly a rarity -- Mike Reiss writing an article critical of the way that the Patriots do business!)
