Per NFL Network, just herd the word that Vick is being ordered by the commish not to report to camp. Step one of what's going to be a long process for the dog killer.

Wouldn't that technically get in the way of the Falcons ability to claim 'default' status of Vick, thereby hampering any efforts of theirs to recoup paid bonus money from Vick? I mean, I know because he'll be in court when the Falcons open up camp, that he will be in default, but with the commissioner ordering him to stay away before it happens, doesn't that take some teeth out of the Falcon's argument should they decide to go after the money?

PFT has this as well...Goodell seems like he really gets it now. The 'Vick will not be suspended until the legal procedures are finished' statement is now inoperable. GOOD!!!

I think it puts Vick's status more in the hands of the commish and league office. If I've earned an opinion on Goodell, I believe he will take this matters into his own hands and go through his own suspension process. The Falcons are essentially powerless at this point. This whole thing is going to be drawn out and get really messy. We will hear about this every day leading up to September 9 when all the games are under way.

PFT actually had a story up an hour or two ago, citing a Fox 5 Atlanta report that Vick took a leave of absence. MDS was the author. Looks like it's down now, though.

I think a year should be in order with a pending longer suspension depending on the result in court.

and if the league suspends him for one year, in the event he is acquitted, the falcons won't look bad with Vick and the city of Atlanta because it wasn't Arthur Blank's doing.

Vick is going over Niagara Falls in a canoe. His next uniform may be an orange jump suit with a mop and pail of water.

And this is not going to help his case. He should not flip the bird at the Commissioner like that. At least not while he is looking and with cameras in the room.

This can't be..!! After all, it was only last week people in here were panicking about how lenient the NFL commissioner was being..!!

lol. it's how Vick says hello. He's so misunderstood :)

Good move, saving Falcon face.

I wonder if there's any clauses in his contract regarding felonies and the recovery of the bonuses. There must be. Either that or the commish and the Falcons have an understanding. He does work for the owners after all.

According to PFT, I believe, the ONLY clause in his contract for the Falcons getting money back is if he's "in default", which he WOULD be for missing the first day of camp due to his court date. My question earlier was whether or not the Commissioner forcing the hand actually gets in the way, legally, of the "default" status, thereby getting in the way of the Falcs getting the cash back.

 excellent photoshop. If I had the skill, I would have one of my two weiner dogs biting his ass.

yeah, I love pft's pics.

They put up a number of new ones recently

I like this one that "Vilma said that dog fighting was like horse racing and gave Vick an idea."

Listening to NFLN and Schefter and Wyche (from the AJC) this is just a stop gap measure to take the pressure off everyone as camp opens. Blank isn't nearly ready to cut Michael yet because of a $15.6M dead cap hit that would result in 2008. And if he didn't default him on Thursday it might jeopardize his right to default him at all down the road. There are rules about the timing on those things.

Supposedly this will give the league and the team time to expand their own investigations to see just how much hard evidence exists on Mike, and if it's sufficient to justify a personal conduct suspension absent a conviction. I assume they will be looking to preponderance of evidence as opposed to beyond a reasonable doubt, much like in civil cases. I imagine they also hope it will give his new Washington lawyer hired today time to establish some influence with Mike beyond his existing handlers and perhaps convince his client that he needs to focus on his legal troubles and a LOA at his own request (which would of course be graciously granted) is in his own best interest.

The ideal situation for the Falcons would be for Michael to just go away gratis this season and for their option to cut him loose to kick in at a later date based on a league suspension or a criminal conviction that doesn't allow him to report in 2008. Then they could cut him loose next season and spread his dead cap over 2 seasons under the June 1 veteran exemption.

Here in Vick country (Virginia), this is big news, of course.

They showed protestors in Atlanta with big signs of Vick and the words 'scumbag' underneath....

That is the type publicity that NOBODY wants, let alone Blanky.

Looks like the NFL is going into self protection mode even faster than many of us anticipated.

Indicating that the Michael Vick amusement park theme tour is being put on hold.

Scumbag.
