the sigs been there for months and months now. alot of people have manning bashing in their sigs. its a free board... I can put what I want.

hate me for it. its ok. i still love all of you.

What is that, seven or eight starters or key backups that the Bolts have lost? I ain't cryin' about that.

Glenn's "retirement" is interpreted by some as a negotiating ploy. He's due 4.5m this year and will be a FA next year.

I guess that Ugoh signing doesn't look so bad now to all the posters who continued to bash it again and again....

We knew why they did it, as Glenn's re-signing after this year seemed unlikely - it was still a poor value, though, trading a #2 and a #1 (next year) for a second round quality prospect. Sure, it looks "good" in terms of filling the hole - it's still a bad value though.

Oh...I'm starting to get it. Glenn sees them draft Ugoh and interprets that as the handwriting on the wall regarding a contract extension with the Colts.

That being the case, he decides to blackmail them by "retiring" unless they throw significantly more $ at him to play out his contract or possibly trade him to a team that will give him big upfront money this year as part of a contract extension.

Why are New England fans so paranoid?

A very plausible scenario, especially since Ugoh is mighty raw to throw into the fire as a rookie. (He devoted much of his energy to track & field in college.) Makes for a good threat.

But hey, the Colts should be in good shape to sweeten Glenn's deal because of all the cap space they gained from Glenn retiring, right? ;)

Where do you see the paranoia?

I can only speak for myself, but my assesment of this situation is that Glenn is/was a very good player for the Colts and since they are the Pat's main rivals these days for NFL supremacy, it's a development that has Patriot Nation curious to see how his retirement will improve/help our chances when the Pats play them.

I'm sure Colts fans had the same conversations with each other when Willie Mac or Ty Law left.

The additional intrique here is that he's announcing this a week before the Colts open up training camp and is leaving $4.5m on the table.

The Patriots won the Super Bowl with a rookie at left tackle, so it can be done.

The Colts drafted Ugoh pretty high, and Polian is a great judge of talent, unfortunately. Still, here's hoping Ugoh plays like a Yugo.

All true, and I had to tip my cap to him for the Anthony Gonzalez pick. But I would have screamed bloody murder if the Pats had spent a #1 on Ugoh -- let alone a #1 + #2. I'm just not sold on the player, especially as a tackle. (In contrast, I think SF's gamble on Joe Staley was an excellent move.)

I liked the Gonzalez pick - in fact I predicted it. But I didn't know they were so desperate for a Tackle that they'd trade a #1 and #2 for one.

In retrospect for them they should have traded for Welker, drafted Ugoh #1 and kept their #1 next year.

Ugoh, Welker, 2008 #1 vs. Ugoh, Gonzalez . . . I bet when all is said and done the 2008 #1 will be of about the same value as Gonzalez so using this equation they'd have had Welker for free.

WOW!!!! This is brilliant. I'm sure glad you don't work for the Colts!

Well Polian is untouchable so if Gonzalez does well the media will kiss his ass. Like they do about drafting Edge over Ricky Williams - OK good choice - but they don't mention that he gave Marshall Faulk to the Rams for a #2 and #5 after which he was the best (or one of the best anyway) player in the league for 3 years and a good one for a couple more.

Edge over Ricky Williams was one of many great moves by Polian. You can't really argue with Polians drafting, it has been EXCELLENT and he's proved he's one of the top evaluators of talent in the league

Edge over Williams
Manning over Leaf
Reggie Wayne (sleeper, many hated this pick)
Freeney (undersized)
Dallas Clark (drafted too high for a team that NEEDED defense remember)
Bob Sanders under the radar at Iowa
Addai when there were arguably better Runners out of College

Almost every year like clockwork the Colts make some offseason moves that leave people scrathing their heads, but yet season later it turns out that it all (for the most part , **Simon**) works out in the grand scheme. So ill take my chances and support the Ugoh pick. But I did just have a large glass of Blue Kool-aid

Yeah I know. But giving away Faulk for a 2&5 was equally bad.

Your choice : Edge + #2 + #5 or Faulk + #1 (4th overall). Champ Bailey went 3 picks later . . . Edge + #2 + #5 or Faulk + Champ. Or Torry Holt.

In fairness to Polian, Faulk wanted out so getting what they got was a good deal.

That said, Polian's is great a building a perenial contender, but not very good at beinging home the bacon. And I count last year and that Indy squad was no better than a lot of playoff failures that just happend upon some great luck.

Plus, Polian is quite possible the biggest jackarse among the GM ranks.

I thought that was because Indy wouldn't pay him not that Faulk flat out wanted to leave the team. Call it what you want, he went from Faulk to James and had to use the #4 pick, which could have been a Champ or a Torry Holt, to do it.

The Colts didn't spend a 1 and a 2 on Ugoh. They traded one of their 3 fourth round picks from 2007 and their first round pick from 2008.

It was well known at the time that the Colts needed to move Faulk, so they couldn't get his true worth in a trade.
