We knew why they did it, as Glenn's re-signing after this year seemed unlikely - it was still a poor value, though, trading a #2 and a #1 (next year) for a second round quality prospect. Sure, it looks "good" in terms of filling the hole - it's still a bad value though.

A very plausible scenario, especially since Ugoh is mighty raw to throw into the fire as a rookie. (He devoted much of his energy to track & field in college.) Makes for a good threat.

But hey, the Colts should be in good shape to sweeten Glenn's deal because of all the cap space they gained from Glenn retiring, right?

I can only speak for myself, but my assesment of this situation is that Glenn is/was a very good player for the Colts and since they are the Pat's main rivals these days for NFL supremacy, it's a development that has Patriot Nation curious to see how his retirement will improve/help our chances when the Pats play them.

I'm sure Colts fans had the same conversations with each other when Willie Mac or Ty Law left.

The additional intrique here is that he's announcing this a week before the Colts open up training camp and is leaving $4.5m on the table.

The Colts drafted Ugoh pretty high, and Polian is a great judge of talent, unfortunately. Still, here's hoping Ugoh plays like a Yugo.

All true, and I had to tip my cap to him for the Anthony Gonzalez pick. But I would have screamed bloody murder if the Pats had spent a #1 on Ugoh -- let alone a #1 + #2. I'm just not sold on the player, especially as a tackle. (In contrast, I think SF's gamble on Joe Staley was an excellent move.)

In retrospect for them they should have traded for Welker, drafted Ugoh #1 and kept their #1 next year.

Edge over Ricky Williams was one of many great moves by Polian. You can't really argue with Polians drafting, it has been EXCELLENT and he's proved he's one of the top evaluators of talent in the league

Almost every year like clockwork the Colts make some offseason moves that leave people scrathing their heads, but yet season later it turns out that it all (for the most part , **Simon**) works out in the grand scheme. So ill take my chances and support the Ugoh pick. But I did just have a large glass of Blue Kool-aid

In fairness to Polian, Faulk wanted out so getting what they got was a good deal.

That said, Polian's is great a building a perenial contender, but not very good at beinging home the bacon. And I count last year and that Indy squad was no better than a lot of playoff failures that just happend upon some great luck.

Plus, Polian is quite possible the biggest jackarse among the GM ranks.

The Colts didn't spend a 1 and a 2 on Ugoh. They traded one of their 3 fourth round picks from 2007 and their first round pick from 2008.
