Meriweather will hopefully be a better version what Eugene Wilson was in 2003/4 - at least that's what I'm looking for but with better ballhawking has Wilson didn't pick many balls off. The skill sets are similar but Meriweather should have better Safety instincts as he played there in college, unlike Wilson.
I agree with this assesment. He's got some 03-04 Wilson in him (hard hitting, good cover skills), but there is no question Merriweather is a more explosive athlete. Merriweather also has a slightly larger frame so if he needed to, he could put on another 10 lbs or so and be more of a SS. At this point, he'll be more of a FS/nicelback.
I dont want to start the comparisons to Ed Reed or Sean Taylor just yet. Those 2 guys are incredible playmakers.
Fred Marion was also a very good playmaker in his own right.
My .02$
Yeah, I don't get this Sanders/SS stuff. He's an athletic coverage guy. Not that he can't play the run but that's not WHAT he does.more of an SS? i hope he doesnt play SS because u take away his cover skills as opposed to him playing FS
I'm a huge Sean Taylor fan. He is succeptable to the deep ball sometimes, but god damn he hits people harder than anyone in the leauge...He went to "the U" as well.....maybe he'll turn out like that!
With apologies to Chris Chambers and Mike Vick, there isn't a more overrated player in the league than Sean Taylor.
I think the best comparable to Meriweather is probably Michael Huff.
Vick and Chambers yes....
Sean Taylor had 114 Tackles 3 forced fumbles and one int last year plus not to mention dozens of bone crushing hits. To say he isn't the best is totally understandable, but to call him overrated? I dunno about that. Remember that hit on Moorman in the Pro Bowl last year? Who hits somebody like that in the pro bowl? Let alone a punter! The guy is either a terrible human being for hitting people so hard or is just a great competitor....

I think he will play CB before he plays SS. Played both CB and FS in college and did well at both positions.
I say over-rated because most of his hype comes from big hits. That doesn't impress me. I'd rather a run-support safety make a quiet tackle than a loud miss. Taylor misses A LOT of tackles trying for the highlight-reel hit instead of playing technique and wrapping up the tackler. Remix also says it well in his #2 above, but I won't even get into his coverage deficiencies, because that's not his game.
Seriously, if it weren't for segments like "Jacked Up", would you ever see Taylor on a highlight reel? Probably not.
Incidently, I had the same problem with him at UM after watching him get out of the way of Greg Jones and Quincy Morgan instead of trying to make the tackle. He's great on a big hit on a WR, or cleaning up on a ball carrier coming through the tackles, but I question his courage when faced with a ballcarrier coming at him full speed, and it's just RB vs. Taylor with a touchdown hanging in the balance.
All that being said, if he matures a bit and starts listening to coaching, assuming the coaching is good, he could develop into a really good safety.

i think your a little wrong. he didnt have a problem facing greg jones..he just got run over. he didnt shy away.

he came up and broke down and just got run over. if anyone in the league has courage to do something..its sean taylor and im telling u a dead honest answer.
ask julius jones..joseph addai..tatum bell..cadillac williams..chester taylor..maurice jones drew..tiki barber
truth be told..taylor isnt afraid of anyone. his problem is he sometimes misses tackles because he runs in full speed going for knockout and doesnt get the RB enough to bring him down. (whiff) because when ur going full speed.its hard to control yourself sometimes
My girlfriend is from D.C. and a HUGE redskins fan, so I end up going out and watching all these Skins game on T.V. each year. Every play on defense, Sean Taylor is right there. He has that same type of "nose for the football" like a Bruschi or Urlacher, basically guys who seem to always be involved, or at least 3 yards away from every single play. Taylor will only get better defending that deep pass, his true achilles heel. Nevertheless, I think he is a top 5 safety in this leauge and will be a superstar...
