I'm watching the Divisional game replay and noticing the amount of balls being thrown to Samuel's side of the field. I haven't kept an exact count, but there may have been only one pass thrown near him halfway through the third quarter.

I can't recall where exactly, but sometime recently there was a debate over "do people shy away from Samuel?", or "do they throw at him as much as any corner?" From what I've seen so far, San Diego has not felt like trying Samuel too much in this game.

Maybe some teams do in fact fear him to some degree after all.

10:41 left in the 4th, and the first pass I've seen thrown at Samuel. That one he deflected from behind.

I'm just going to go ahead and turn this into the Chargers/Pats replay thread. :D

Gaffney just made an impressive catch with his hands away from the body.....Keegs, if you're watching, it was beautiful :rocker:

samuel didnt get anything his way really. chargers didnt test him although others teams have. i know 1 was like near sideline. i was hoping he would continue his playoff INT streak

question..the 1 where Jackson didnt get both feet in the endzone..what was Samuel's coverage? I know he was near him on the outside with Hawkins over the top gettng beat

That was a great win...but as Fitzy put it, MAYBE it wasn't worth it (knowing what was to come).

heh

Well Gaffney's the man.

He also doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Aye.

After the Chargers win, it just seemed as if we were destined to go all the way.

no kidding.

the colts game is the most depressing thing that ive ever seen in my life.

and the 2nd most depressing thing was the superbowl live... even though it ended up being fun.

I still haven't watched the SB between the Colts/Bears... I don't want to, have no interest...

I'm TIVOing the game, Hobbs was working double time in that game because of a lot of balls were thrown to him... I thought he did a pretty good job in the game overall... He held his own...

I don't get too worked up over it- the Pats were on borrowed time - winning the Charger game was a miracle.

That was atleast the second time Samuel broke up a pass in that game, not the first time.

The thing is NE put Samuel on Eric Parker in that game, and Hobbs on Jackson. Hobbs has a better leap than Samuel which means even though he's slightly shorter NE would rather put him on Jackson than Samuel. If you ask me Samuel had the easier assignment in that game.

they didnt put anyone on anyone..we played the sides

samuel played left the whole game

hobbs faced both guys as did Asante..

first series i remember clearly that Hobbs was right side with Parker.

Me too. I was surprisingly calm when the Colts beat the Pats.

What are you talking about?
The Pats outplayed the Chargers and beat them, as many of us expected. The lineplay was great and the defense stiffenned when they had to. We were one first down from beating the Colts and we should have. The Bears would have been an easy win for us. How can you say that?

Were you watching the same game? We looked like crap on offense most of the day. LT had some huge plays and somehow SD forgot he was on the team in the 2nd half. Dropped passes, fumbled INT's, stupid penalties - San Diego gave that game away.

See I was more disappointed after the Denver loss because the Pats would have faced Pittsburgh at home and then Seattle in the SuperBowl - easily winnable. Plus that Ben Watson/Champ Bailey debacle which should have been a touchback effecively ended the streak (10 straight playoff wins). Last year, the Chargers, Colts and Ravens were all better than the Pats.

Maybe Seattle, not Pittsburgh though. The Steelers were on fire in the playoffs, it would have been a tough game to win.

As for this year, who even knows what personnel we would have had on the field against Chicago?

EDIT: The common thread in our last 2 playoff losses is that I felt better about our chances of winning during the game than before it - that's what really stings.

I think I counted twice that Samuels was thrown to in the whole game and both ending up being dropped passes.... He shut down that side of the field...
