Colts Coordinators

The Chargers, Bears, and Steelers all have lost coordinators this offseason. Not to mention the coordinators the Pats have lost. Why is it that with the success the Colts have had in recent years that the coordinators don't leave?

Tom Moore has been there for ten years as the offensive coordinator and Ron Meeks has been there for six years as the defensive coordinator. I can understand Meeks not getting any offers, but why not Moore? Are these guys turning down offers or have they simply not been contacted? Or is it that they go into interviews but don't get hired?

I'm not sure Moore gets the credit he's deserved over the last few years. Possibly due to the fact that Manning is seen almost as an OC himself and gets a lot of the credit based on this. Didn't he wear the headgear one year against Seattle when Sorgi was in the game instead of him? I think it was 2 years ago.

I'd be interested on a Colts fan's thoughts on this subject though.

I can see why their DC hasn't been targetted much though. Defensively they played well last year in the playoffs against KC and the Ravens(not the strongest offensive teams in the NFL) but they gave up 31 points to the Pats and their regular season record was terrible.

Apparently Moore is just not interested. He likes where he is and has been a Coach for 30 years. If he wanted a HC job, he would have tried years ago.

I think that Moore is very much appreciated in Indianapolis and from those in the know. He undoubtedly makes what most of us would think of as an enormous amount of money and he's settled and stable with a good relationship to those he works with.

Makes sense to me.

It's in Manning contract, that none of his coordinators or wide receivers can leave until his career has ended.

Exactly what I was going to point out. He's too old (in his sixties) and has a pre-programmed robot at quarterback. All he has to do is flick the switch to "on" then sit back and watch it happen.

Good for him. Not everyone needs more money and lusts for the limelight. Dante comes to mind as well.

I respect that. I am always reaching for that next rung of the ladder...grateful, but never fully satisfied it seems. I'm thinking of taking a new job for a mere 20,000 more per year just because of the title...Maybe Moore has inspired me to keep this job I love. I still hate the Colts, though.

I don't think he's all that bad, but he's clearly done little to give the Colts distinction.

Now on offense I suppose one of the assistants could vault into an OC job somewhere - but keep in mind that until this year the Colts were perennial under-achievers... so there's little draw from that...

And this year going deep into the playoffs/SB teams would have had to wait to interview and make a decision - many teams want to make a decision before that which is why Weis and Romeo were often bypassed even after the Pats SB years.

Tom Moore is OC in name only. Manning calls the plays. No team is going to hire a figurehead for a head coach.

Who the hell would want the Colts defensive coordinator as a head coach? Colts D has been a joke for years. They rely on scoring a lot to win. (I'm not knocking it - whatever works, works). But it isn't like whatever-his-name-is is a household word. (Who is the defensive coordinator, anyway? Wouldn't you be happy if he became the Jets or Dolphins head coach? I would.)

The Colts strung together only three good defensive efforts last year. Lucky for them it was in the playoffs. Peaking at the right time makes all the difference. Look at the 2001 Patriots.

you all dont see that tom and peyton go over this stuff pregame and in practice. if all the other qb's and oc's could hang with them then they may know how they make it look so easy.they talk, they trust one another,and thats why the no huddle works so good for them.they call three plays in the huddle on first down,and they just audible between them plays. not rocket science, but still way to complex for most of the nfl teams. tom moore dont have to go anywhere else because he is part of the furniture here in indy,he has alot of things in this town brewing besides oc, heck we got one ON THE FIELD. hooraaa

Very true, but, we had them on the ropes until the perfect storm hit us and knocked us right out.

Nevermind, Colts won it and are Champions, period.

However, it's 2007 now and the Colts will be hard pressed to win their division and get back to the playoffs. Right now, smart money says a 9-7 season and NO playoffs.

I honestly think the light went on in his head in the KC game. He finally realized that he could hurt his team more than help it by continuing to force the ball.
I also think a huge part of it was having He who shall not be named on Patriots boards. Having the confidence in knowing you don't have to score a TD did a great deal in settling him down and taking what was given.
I sure hope that he learned his lesson and uses it going forward.
Only took him 9 years to figure it out.
