Dungy almost Quits?

Florio on ProFootballTalk.com brought up the point that he might leave after next season.

I hope so.

Why is that, Flea?

Jim Rome just talked to Dungy about that too.

Dungy is a tepid coach who got lucky.Let him stay with the Horseshoes forever.

This is a rehash of old news. He's been rumored to be, and even admitted he is, a short timer for a couple of seasons now. The coming up short label was really eating at him two years ago, then of course his son died. I think if they hadn't won last season he likely would have retired. He does want to do ministry work. I think he came back to bask in the glow and to give them a shot at repeating. When he goes it will be a huge adjustment. Remember, he replaced Mora Sr. (playoffs...playoffs???). Polian too can be abrasive. :D I think Dungy is the one quietly and patiently who molds them all together, gets the D to so a little more and someone on O to do a little less... It will be tougher yet to keep them together and focused through a defense of title season. Which is why I think either way he's likely gone after this season.

just so long as cowher isn't his replacement

Good, I'm sick of Dungy and his preachy *****.

Can't stand Dungy either. He couldn't win with the team he had in Tampa, so Gruden had to come in and win with them.

Does it even matter who coaches the Colts? I consider Peyton more of a coach than anyone else in that organization.

Indy is in the same position as Pitt was last year and hopefully it will be the same outcome. Too bad Manning doesn't ride around on motorcycles without a helmet

true, but he can't coach the defense. Everyone knows the offense will be stellar, but the defense is what the team's success hinges on. if they play poorly on defense, the season ends like it used to in 2003 and 2004.

Naah. I want to beat them fair and square. I wouldn't wish injury on anyone, even Peyton Whining. It's gonna be a barn burner when Pats face off against Colts!!
As for Dungy he's got his ring. He's got nothing left to prove except an attempt at a repeat. Let him go off into the sunset if he has higher priorities than football now.

I don't think they would've have won it by now if "Playoffs???" was still there. Despite Dungy's holier than thou BS, the players seem to geniuely like him.

I think it would be interesting to see Cowher as the replacement. I would kind of want to see if Cowher would change his philosophy of running the ball so damn much and taking it out of Peyton's hands or would he leave the playcalling totally up to their current Offensive coordinator and Peyton and just concentrate on the defense. If he did the latter, I would be scared to death of the Colts.

of course, cowher will probably never go there. and thank god. Bettis said he thinks he'll go to the Giants. And Bettis was one of the first to predict Cowher to leave Pittsburgh, so there's credibility

No hopefully NOT the same outcome. Pittsburgh wussed out and missed the playoffs. I hope Indy is at least tough enough to be dethroned on the field in January (preferably Gillette) :)
