I know to some of you this is gonna be a waste of a post, although not to me.
Currently on espn headlines under the Freeney signing alot of posters are saying that Seymour isn't even in the same class as Dwight Freeney.
I know people are entitled to their opinions but that is just a ridiculous statement and I believe we will See Seymour grow even more dominant this season with Adalius Thomas wreaking havoc on on both sides of the line of scrimmage!
To me Seymour is at least the top 3 I'd say Convincingly only Taylor is more dominate as of right now.

Welcome Crazyeechris.

Don't pay to much heed to ESPN bloggers. Their hate for NE is well known. 2 different players in 2 different systems. Seymour takes up space and occupies blockers (usaully more than 1) to give the LB's a chance to make a clean play.

Freeney pins his ears back and hopes someone either misses their assignment or is the tackle is inexperienced enough for him to spin on. He has no game versus the run.

Seymour is more valuable to his teammates than Freeney, who makes no one around him better.

Ok..... Seymour is hands down the most versitle, and probably best at what he does. So yeah, they are dumb.

They don't play the same position.

Freeney would be a linebacker on the Pats, if he could play linebacker.

$5 they dont think hes top 5 because his stats

3-4 DEs dont get as much recognition because they usually wont get 10 sacks because they have other responsibilities than just rushing the QB.

at least our DE can stop the run and doesnt rely on 1 move (cough cough FREENEY cough cough)

Yeah that is true people are so obsessed with sacks that they forget about all the other things great football players do.
Such as just making the QB hold the ball that extra second or hesitate a throw to disrupt the timing. Not to mention the double and at times triple teams he faces.
It's Players like Seymour who dominates and doesn't get the accolades he truly deserves from simple minded people.
Thank you for the welcoming seems like a great place to chat about my favorite and to me the only team in the NFL that truly matters.

yep. 3-4 lineman arent the "go sack the QB" type

they have to open up the hole for the linebackers by moving to a certain spot or taking out the tackle-guard or whoever is blocking.

Everyone around here is too sensitive....why would anyone care if some putz from East Bumphuque, Nebraska isnt a Seymour fan? Believe it or not, the Pats may not be the best team of all time in most peoples minds....some reporters may think Manning is better than Brady....other reporters may bash the Pats!...my God, get over it folks!

Don't listen to them. Seymour is the #2 defense line man in the NFL. To me, he is right behind Julius Peppers.

great minds think alike :)

Seymour plays a 2-gap 3-4. That means he has to hold the line and control the gap on either side of him. That's no small feat when he's getting doubled the entire game. It might not be flashy but it's a huge task. He's a wall out there. Anyone who thinks that Seymour doesn't make it easier for other people on defense, doesn't know anything about football and is driven on stat hype.

This is what makes Ty Warren's 2006 totals that much more impressive. 84 tackles and 7.5 sacks are what 3-4 OLBs should be getting.

Dwight Freeney is a very talented pass-rusher and an incredibly one-dimensional player. Richard Seymour does EVERYTHING. It's a silly, ridiculous, short-sighted, genuinely ignorant position that many are apparently taking.

then why is it that the colts give fewer avg rushing yds per attempt on freeney's side than they do on the other side?

Nicely said, Seymour sometimes does not show up in the box score or with minimal numbers, however when you look at the game tape it is obvious why. Often double and triple teamed, he holds the corner and makes everyone else look better. He is consistently voted by his peers to the pro bowl.. take it for what it is, he is one of the top at what he does and makes this team better.

Could you please provide the proof to back up your claim? Any stat site would be great.

Seymour wasn't close to being a top 5 DL last season. Ahead of him

T Warren
J Taylor
Trevor Pryce
Terrell Suggs
J Henderson
J. Williams
Jared Allen
Pat Williams
K Williams
A. Kampman
J. Peppers
W. Smith
L. Little

and possibly more.
