ESPN.com news services

Updated: July 14, 2007, 3:32 PM ET

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chris Chambers was arrested early Saturday and charged with driving while impaired in Charlotte, N.C., the Miami Herald reported on its Web site.

The newspaper reported that according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's crime log, Chambers was arrested at 2:31 a.m. and charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving and speeding. He was later released on a $1,750 bond.

The Dolphins declined to comment and neither Chambers nor his agent, Ben Dogra, could be reached for comment, according to the report.

Wheres Aqua when you need him?

It's DWI, not DUI - more serious.

more Fin Turds, shocker.

I'm still waiting for more conformation on this. I'm sure it was alcohol but it could be anything from drugs even all the way to medication. Slap on the wrist and move on with it, just like Porter.

Hehe. Could the Dolphins be the Bengals of the AFC East? Like the Jags are the Bengals of the AFC South?

You forgot the Bengals west, the Chargers. ;)

Whoa. On PFT the Dolphins are now in the lead in the Turd Watch. Well tied with the Jags. Sitting pretty at 0 is the Pats. :D

Some turds at Finheaven are talking about how its not serious and everyone does it. lol. Chambers could have killed someone. I wonder what their reaction would have been then.

You really need to check your facts. Porter was charged with DUI. Chambers is being charged with DWI. There is a difference.

I wonder if Cameron is going to send him packing the way he did Evans and McMichael. That would be funny.

DaBruinz,
I'll repeat what I posted earlier. I always thought that DUI and DWI were synonymous and just depended on how the state classified it. Is there another difference???
The google search below didn't exactly clarify it......

Actually the difference between DWI and DUI is also different between different states, and different between the state and the federal government. For some states (examples, Virginia and New Jersey) there is no difference between the two terms - they both mean drunk driving. In Minnesota on the other hand, there is technically no such thing as DUI (they use the term DWI - driving while impaired - instead). The distinction for the federal government is drawn based on severity. A DWI is issued when the blood alcohol content (BAC) is over the 0.08 limit, whereas a DUI is a less severe term, given when a persons BAC is under 0.08

What is a DWI?

DWI (Driving While Intoxicated or Driving While Impaired), DUI (Driving Under the Influence), OVI (Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence), OVWI (Operating a Vessel While Intoxicated), OUIL (Operating Under the Influence Liquor), OUI (Operating Under the Influence), APC (Actual Physical Control), DWAI (Driving While Ability Impaired), BWI (Boating While Intoxicated) and OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) are all different definitions of drunk driving charges in the United States. For example, Texas, New York, New Jersey and North Carolina laws refer to drunk driving as Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), while Florida and California laws refer to drunk driving as Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

All states have adopted drunk driving laws setting the standard for drunk driving or legal intoxication at a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) level of .08 or higher. Some states will charge you with being impaired even if your BAC level is less then .08. New York will charge you with DWAI if your BAC level is between .05 and .07. Most states have Zero Tolerance Laws for drivers under the age of 21.

I thought the two terms were interchangeable. Sources????

One doesn't need sources. One is "driving while intoxicated," one is "driving under the influence." They're two different things. DWI is worse.

Well, my understanding was that DWI = Driving While Intoxicated. Meaning that you BAC was over the state's legal limit (whatever that states adopted legal limit happens to be. My understanding is that DUI = Driving Under the Influence isn't limited to just alcohol. It can also be from Drugs (both ILLEGAL OR OTC) also. And, if it is from drugs, there tends to be other penalties they hit you with.

And they said Randy Moss was going to be trouble.

The arresting officer reports that Chambers kept mumbling "Ginn over Quinn? Ginn over Quinn? Ginn over Quinn?".

No wonder Chambers was driven to drink.

I'd be drinking heavy too if my QB's were brittle old Trent Green with 2 rookies and Cleo Lemon backing him up.

Have you seen the trailers for GTA4? I'm going to buy a PS3 just for this game.

Nope. You can get charged with a DWI for being high on narcotics.
