Just listening to Sirius and they are discussing Michael Vick and trying to defend him without knowing for sure if he was guilty and said they did not want to accuse the unaccused right now.

What was interesting is that of all QBs in the NFL,the Sirius announcers were talking about what if it was Tom Brady instead of Michael Vick who was accuse of abusing dogs? -Would the fans believe it they asked, and then they said no way would anyone believe Tom would do it.

Now I don't know how they meant what they said,Was it a racist issue that they are trying to refrain from or is it because Tom is the all american guy that no one would believe did it.

They simply said that as soon as Vicks name was mentioned in this dog fighting issue most people probably said they knew he would do something like this all along but if it was Brady no one would believe it and everyone would never believe Tom would do it until definite proof and a conviction were shown, they think the fans have already disowned Vick no matter what final situation comes out of this investigation,His career is in trouble regardless if he is found to be Guilty or not.

I think many sports media guys are refraining from accusing Vick more from a racial standpoint rather than because he was not accused yet and using Brady as an example was a way to get a bit away from the conversation at hand - I bet most of those media guys truly believe Vick is surely guilty but afraid to say so on air and are doing the 'innocent until proven guilty' thing just because they don't want to be scrutinized as an accuser which affects race of being.

They went on to say Tom is being scrutinized himself by the baby/girlfriends issue but that no one outside of the Boston area really cares - I don't think thats the case,if you do a google search with 'Tom Brady Baby' you will get a million places to check out articles from all over the world.

If Brady had already gave a girl herpes and told her his name was Tom Canada, had flipped off the fans at Gillette, and been found at an airport with a water bottle with a hidden weed compartment I'm sure people would think he was guilty on the spot also. Vick deserves what he has coming to him, and I don't think karma cares about skin color.

I don't think race has much to do with it. It might for some fans, but for the majority it's past actions they're judging on. People would be just as shocked if Adalius Thomas' name was linked to dog fighting as Brady's.

If Brady was convicted of something as disgusting as dog fighting I would be calling for his banishment from the league just liked I will be calling for Vick's banishment if he is convicted of these disgusting acts.

Pulling the race card out does nothing but make the person lose all credibility in my mind

Good call!

post of the decade

It would have been a better comparison if they'd mentioned, say, Troy Brown. That would have demonstrated that it isn't a matter of race.

I don't think fans' believing that Vick was involved has much to do with race OR his previous displays of "poor character."

I think the combination of class, geography, and simple deduction skills is involved. Tom Brady grew up in an affluent suburb in northern California. Vick grew up in a poor region of Virginia. There's not a whole lot of dog fighting that goes on outside of San Francisco... but there's plenty of it in Newport News.

Now, if someone were to accuse the two of them of wearing socks + sandals and playing hacky-sack at a Greatful Dead concert, I think people would have an easier time buying that Tom were guilty of *that* crime.

I definitely wouldn't believe it, given not only what I know in having a friendship with the guy, but in his public disclosures as well. The perception is easy to make based upon an athlete's track record, not his skin color. If someone had told me that Troy Brown was the person involved, I would have the same disbelief.

If 50 dead dogs and a large-scale dogfighting facility was found on Tom Brady's property I wouldn't give him the benefit of the doubt either. Being a Patriots fan wouldn't turn off the chunk of my brain which doesn't require a conviction to see that someone is a scumbag.

Add to this Vick's history and I don't see the point at all.

I don't understand the notion of believing him. This isn't he-said, she-said. I guess if people want to believe that the dogfighting infrastructure was set up without Vick knowing and without his money (and it continued operating without his knowledge) they're free to be stupid and believe that. I'll refrain, especially considering what we've heard about Vick buying syringes from a local animal supply store.

I believe Michael Vick had used an alias in the past calling himself Ron Mexico.

Unfortunatley, Vick hasn't been convicted yet... :(

It's not about Vick or Brady. It's not about affairs with movie stars vs. weed in a bottle. It's not about innuendo.

It's about federal agents digging up Vick's property in search of evidence of multiple felonies. If indicted, Vick is in serious trouble.

If it was Brady, the trouble would be just as serious and the media coverage far more extensive. The upcoming season and Brady's career and his freedom would be in doubt.

There is one reason I wasnt surprised because I had known it for years. I live right next to a dogfighting ring (who I have reported in the past to no avail) It has been like an open secret around these parts of Virginia that Vick was sponsoring many of these fights. Do I have proof nope, because I dont go to these fights but I have seen Vick in the area(south boston) many times.

Great point. Its about one's actions, not skin color.

Race sells, violence sells, sex sells, on and on and on. They bring up race because it catches our attention.

One could easily argue that Vick has been treated with kid gloves by the media.

Brady has taken some lumps for the "kid issue" but Vick has already fathered two kids out of wedlock with two different women. I just read on the Falcons board that it is rumored that he has a 3rd kid on the way with another woman. The media seems to have given him a pass.
