Jets will be much improved this year

I think a team under the radar this year is the New York Jets. They picked up a underrated back, Thomas Jones, who all he does is gain 1400 yds. every year. Running the football was a glaring problem on that team last year....

I don't know too much about their defense, I know they kept Vilma but lost guys like Abraham. Pennington looked strong in some games last year and the team did end up winning 10 games. As pats fans you'd hate to think their was another team in the AFC east that could compete with us, but I think if not this year, the Jets will be competing (11-13 wins) in this next year or so...

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Oh yeah, and Miami and Buffalo will be trash this year....

Why?? Why dude?? Why would you ruin my Friday with this Jets garbage......why do I have to type this in again? The jets no longer have a last place schedule and a Kerry Collins-led Titans team to barely beat...it doesn't matter how many boxing coaches Mangyna brings in, the jets will not have a better record than the pats this upcoming year...in fact the jets will not even match last years record, and Ill make a 50 dollar charity bet with any jets fan (only 1 fan) that wants to take my bet!

I don't...I really think they'll take a step or two back this year..usually when a team surprises one year, the next misses the mark. I KNOW many think they;ll just improve by a few games..but I just do not see it at all. They had very few injuries last year and seemed to hit the perfect wave with very few obstacles. Not happening this year.

They were about the worst team in the NFL 2 years ago, and improved to a nice season last year. That wasnt with 53 new players. They still have issues on their roster,some of which were masked by the schedule and good luck with injuries.

I think they take a step back.

IMO, they are basically an entirely average team. Average teams don't usually stay average, they go one way or the other, but there isn't any more evidence that they will become a juggernaut than there is that they will fall apart and be rebuilding all over again in 2010.

Jets will finish 8-8 at best this year. They will take a step back now that they have a tougher schedule. They may play better, but end up with a worse record. Either way, no playoffs for them (or anyone besides the Pats in the AFCE).

Jones had much better blocking in Chicago. He will be getting wrapped up behind the line up scrimmage much more now. Jets have no offensive line, Chad sucks, and a questionable defense. They are at best a 10 - 6 team.

It's hard to consider the Jets an "under the radar" team considering they're coming off a playoff appearance.

I think the Jets will improve in 2006, but given the schedule, that improvement will not show in the standings. The Jets are a wild card contender. They are not in the same class as Denver and San Diego, which means they will be fighting for the final wild card spot. Their most likely competition (Cincinnatti/Baltimore and Jacksonville) are far more talented teams.

Looking at the team's schedule, they open the season against the Pats then teavel to Baltimore. They're looking at a likely 0-2 start. Their midseason schedule is pretty easy, and they can easily head into the stretch run with a 6-4 record, and in the thick of the wild card race. After that, they travel to Dallas, Miami and New England in a 4 week stretch. I think that all but kills their wild card hopes. They finish the season easy with games against Tennessee and Kansas City.

Bottom line, the Jets are probably an 8-9 win team. A 9 win season should be considered a success. It will take some extreme good fortune and good coaching to reach the 10 win plateau necessary to nail that last playoff spot.

They just have so many holes to fill - and rather than going for quantity in the draft and free agency, Mangini went for quality - which is wise, but means this is another developmental year.

Jones will wind up being a steal for a 2nd round pick, but their OL isn't yet ready for primetime.

I agree that the Jets will be our only contender for the next few years. Miami and Buffalo are just in disarray at the moment.

I think the Jets could make the playoffs again as a wildcard. There defense was one of the top defenses in the second half of the season last year and basically improved every game. They added Thomas Jones to bolster their running game when they averaged like 3.3 ypc last year as a team. Like it or not, Mangini knows what hes doing.

^What he said. Just about every team that has a surprise season regresses the following year.

The Jets were incredibly healthy last year, and I don't know if Pennington has ever been healthy two years in a row. Teams get a little more psyched up for playoff teams, whereas last year the Jets flew under the radar.

What's sad is that an 8-8 year should be considered progress. Mangini took over a 4-12 team and getting it to a consistent .500 (rather than Miami's good one year, crappy the next) in year 2 with a promising future should be enough. The truth is that missing the playoffs (and considering NE is a lock in the East and either SD or Denver is pretty much a lock for a wild card, there's 1 playoff spot open for them) will be treated as a failure.
