Welcome aboard Mike Richardson.

It is a 4-year deal.

Yes, we have just finished the 16th hole and the 17th is a par 3. But, that 18th hole is a monster par 5.

Golf terms if anyone is confused.

Who said next week would be easy? :D

Re: First Rookie Signed

"The New England Patriots open training camp at Gillette Stadium on Friday, July 27."
as does July 28th.
Or were you looking forward to the concert at Gillette on the 28th?

Re: First Rookie Signed

Interesting a 4 your deal maybe they really like this kid?

I seem to recall most contracts being at least 4 years for draft picks.

It is the UDFAs that often are only for a year or two.

Even the UDFAs get bonuses and longer term contracts these days.

Re: First Rookie Signed

I can't get the visions of Notre Dame's secondary getting torched on every single play verses Michigan last year out of my mind.

I just don't see it.

I mean that defense gave up a butload of points.

I know he was only a 6th round pick, and I pray to god he proves me wrong. But I am not hopefull at all about this pick.

What do you think is going to happen if he finds himself looking across the line at a Marvin Harrison or Reggie Wayne?

Re: First Rookie Signed

I agree with some of the others. The fact that it is a 4 year contract means very little. What is means is that if he is good we have him for 4 years. If he is not so good we still cut him regardless of how many years he signed for so it is no indication of what the team thinks about him

Re: First Rookie Signed

I SORT OF agree that the length of the contract doesn't suggest all that much - but I'd agree even more if it were three years. Four years seems like maybe he's piqued their interest. In any case, I'm pretty damn psyched if that's it. If we can get another Randall Gay-level CB on the cheap, signed long-term, that'll be swell. We'll see.

And it's all Richardson's fault ?

Texas' secondary looked like a sieve at times and they had two #1 picks.

I also have doubts about any ND defender based on 2006's performance, but NE coaches must have seen something in him they can teach. At least he's got good quickness:

NFL | Richardson participates in Pro Day
Sun, 4 Mar 2007 21:38:21 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Notre Dame DB Michael Richardson measured a height of 5-10 3/4 and a weight of 188 pounds at his Pro Day March 4. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds and 4.50 seconds. He completed the short shuttle in 4.05 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.27 seconds. Richardson measured a 36-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-7 broad jump.

The 4-year deal doesn't mean much. If he turns into a contributor, they have him for $550K in his fourth year, which is short money. If he doesn't live up to expectations, he's gone. The Pats always try to sign rookie deals to their max lengths. Just ask Benjamin Watson.

You never know... Tom Brady was a sixth round pick. He turned out fairly good.

Re: First Rookie Signed

Have to believe that any Golden Domer the Patriots acquire these days
comes with the whole-hearted blessing
of the man who knows our defense
and their personnel ... best.

I'm with you. I have a lot of ND fans as friends so I'm watching the games a lot and the secondary was terrible last year.

Re: 2nd rookie inked...

I think Clint makes the practice squad.
