A 46" LCD Samsung is my leading contender right now - I was planning on Plasma but didn't realize the difference in reflectivity until I saw them.

I think these are my top two right now :

Samsung LN-T4661F and the Sharp LC-46D82U

Did you look into DLP? I have a 61" Samsung 1080P ... and love it. BTW, tigerdirect.com had a Panasonic model with the same primary specs as mine for ~ $1500 - that's a huge bargain if it's a nice set - I paid ~ $4000 for mine two years ago.

Yeah, I really need the thinness of the plasma/lcd as the viewing distance in my living room isn't all that big so any distance coming out from the wall makes it even shorter. I was going to go a bit bigger with plasma but, like I said, I love the non reflectivity of LCD.

That's the thing for me. Last year our losses were paper losses now and we didn't get the "oh sh!t" factor until we realized that the players were really gone - now the shoe's on the other foot and although we know we've added Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Thomas, et al, it won't truly sink in until they make plays on the field that wouldn't have been made last year.

Experts recommend anywhere upto 10 feet max. for enjoying all that HD has to offer. Hows that for info. that you may never ever get the chance to use?

I had nothing but problems with two of my three Samsungs. If you go that way, get the extended warranty, because odds are you won't be watching that TV for more than three years.

When I went to get my new one at Best Buy, I asked four different employees in the 18-28 range which TV they would choose if they could bring home any in the store. Without hesitation they all mentioned a Pioneer plasma, with no second place finisher.

I forget the serial number, but it's a 50-inch. I believe the same model comes in 40 and 55 as well. I also find that the glare on the TV is much less on the Plasma than it was on the LCD.

I am very happy with my Sony 50" DLP. I have the HD package, BlueRay. I have 3 little ones and any food that goes on the screen comes right off!

Pioneers are phenomenal plasmas, no doubt. They're definitely considered #1 for plasma. Not sure what to say about the glare but I didn't see any plasmas with a low glare/reflection when I made the rounds last week (2 Costcos, 1 Best Buy, 1 Sears, 1 Circuit City).

This is my first one...I've been a faithful LCD guy up until February. But down in my basement/Sunday afternoon utopia, there are two casement windows and glass panels in the door which put light on the TV if not covered. Definitely less noticeable on the Plasma....you actually have to try to see it.

Keep in mind that the higher the resolution the closer you can sit for a given screen size. With 1080P I sit about 8' from the screen and I don't feel at all "too close". Of course, you do see a lot of artifacts when you watch old lo-def stuff, particularly on analog channels (which are going away in 2009). But even "standard-definition" digital broadcasts look fine at this distance, at least to me.

Tweeter is another good place to look - they have a good selection of higher end models but their prices are higher than the stores you mentioned. I shopped at tweeter and then bought online - vanns.com. I had a very good experience with them. You don't get local support but my tv arrived perfect.

Got a 62" Mitsubishi DLP 1080p last August for $1800. Yay for clearance models.

I only have about 8 feet to my TV. Can never go too big.

I took a ride by the stadium today while on my way to the Wrentham outlets just for fun, especially since I won't be back until December. I get pumped just seeing the place (the stadium, not the outlets).

I was surprised to see all of the construction going on. More than I had expected.
