Welcome to The Show! On Thursday, New England Patriots DL Ty Warren will stop by to chat.

The 2006 season marked Warren's fourth in the NFL. He put up the best numbers of his short career, recording 7.5 sacks and 84 tackles. He also forced a fumble and recovered another one. For his career, Warren has 13 sacks and 233 tackles in 63 career games.

Yes indeed people.

Please let us know.

Ben (NY): Ty - you are a great player! Do you like playing in NE? I hope you feel the love for you there.

SportsNation Ty Warren: Yes.

Jon (Los Angeles): Is nose tackle the hardest position to play in the NFL? It seems like it takes incredible endurance and patience. I would imagine it can get pretty frustrating being that you only get to the QB about 3 or 4 times a game.

SportsNation Ty Warren: I think it's a tough position, but people that's suited for it, like Vince, it probably comes a little easier for him.

Roger (college station tx): Hey Ty, thanks for all of the memories here at A&M. What do you miss the most about Texas? The Dixie Chicken?

SportsNation Ty Warren: The restaurants. The hospitality.

Jim (Del Mar, CA): Ty, which QB do you want to sack the most?

SportsNation Ty Warren: All of them! No particular one.

Tyler (Boston): Great job last year, you were the most dominant lineman on the team last year. Any personal goals for this upcoming season?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Just to build upon what I did last year.

Chris (San Pedro, CA): Ty, which team did you root for growing up?

SportsNation Ty Warren: The Cowboys.

Tyler (Maine): Hey, have you talked to Randy Moss? Is he a nice guy?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Yeah, I talked to him. He is a nice guy.

AP (Boynton Beach,FL): Ty how important is it to perform up to the expectations that everyone has for the Patriots this year after all the additions this offseason?

SportsNation Ty Warren: We'll just try to focus on the task at hand and on our jobs. I'll work on things that I need to work on.

scott, hartford: Hi Ty, Just wondering if the mad scientist coach of yours has any schemes in which you will be lining up at corner this year?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I doubt it.

SportsNation Ty Warren: I'd rather keep my hand in the dirt.

Steve (Las Vegas): Ty, do you think a team will ever go undefeated again? Or is it too hard to do in today's NFL?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I don't think so. Just because everybody's just too good nowadays. Even the teams that don't have the best record have a chance to knock you out. I think today's teams tend to get too lackasdasical and content.

Nick (Boston): Ty, it seems like this team has no weaknesses on paper. Talent-wise, is this the best team you've ever played on?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Time will tell.

Scott (MI): Favorite player to watch in the NFL? (Not on the Pats)

SportsNation Ty Warren: I like Steve Smith.

Martin (Canada): How is your offseason training going? Do you think this could be a breakout year for you? With the addition of Adalius Thomas, the opposing offensive line will have another weapon to worry about, giving you a good opportunity to pick up some good numbers.

SportsNation Ty Warren: It's going great.

Tim (Boston): Hey Ty, I'm a huge fan. How is Brandon Merriweather fitting in, will he play a big role early in the season?

SportsNation Ty Warren: That's another one that time will tell.

Mike (Boston): Hey Ty have to say it was pleasure meeting you at Wilfork draft party you are a class act. How do you see the D performing this year with the addition of Thomas? Thanks!

SportsNation Ty Warren: I think we can be as good as we want to be. We just have to try to stay consistent and stay healthy.

Kurtis (Portland, ME): Ty, if you had the 2nd pick in a fantasy football draft...who would you pick?

SportsNation Ty Warren: It's got to be LT.

Andrew (Cambridge): Hey Ty, Do you feel the addition of Adalius Thomas to the defense will make a noticable difference in the overall pressure put on the QB?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I think it was a good acquisition. It fits our concept of our defense.

Joey (NYC): Does it ever frustrate you that you don't get the recognition that you should? Do you think certain players are overhyped because they play at a skill position?

SportsNation Ty Warren: No, it just gives me something to shoot for. I'm still young, so I have a lot of things to accomplish. A lot of goals to reach.

Kate (Boston): Hi Ty! Huge Patriots fan. Can you talk about the Asante Samuel issue? I know there are certain things you can't say, but if you could be as candid as possible, I'd really like to know if the team is behind him, as with Branch, or if there's a different view.

SportsNation Ty Warren: He's a good player. I'm sure things will work out between him and the club.

Greg(Boston): Still got any anger or frustration over last year's ending?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Oh, no question.

Nick (Boston): Honestly, who is the strongest of you, Richard Seymour, and Vince Wilfork?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Overall? I'm stronger than Vince in my legs.

SportsNation Ty Warren: Vince and I.

Chris (Boston): Were you disappointed when you didn't make the pro bowl last season, even though you had a better season than seymoure.

SportsNation Ty Warren: It was disappointing, but it is something to shoot for. Hawaii isn't going anywhere.

Nick (Santa Monica, CA): If you couldn't play football and had to play a different sport, what sport would you play?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Probably baseball.

Darius (College Station, TX): Do you still hate the Longhorns, or has the rivalry dulled since you left A&M?

SportsNation Ty Warren: No, I don't hate them. Playing against them, I didn't like them. But I played in a lot of all-star games and played with them prior to going to college.

Dave, Boston: Hey Ty what is the most painful injury that you have ever had?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Probably, for immediate pain, stingers. I've been pretty fortunate, though.

Joe (Tulsa, OK): Were you surprised to see your team make as many offseason moves as they did?

SportsNation Ty Warren: No. I think you can never be surprised. Guys get older. Guys move to other teams. It's just the NFL, moves are always being made.

Justin (Cincinnati): Ty, how is the clubhouse following the untimely, extremely sad passing of Marquise Hill?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I think the fact that everyone had a shoulder to lean on has helped the situation. I don't think you can ever get over the situation like that especially when you know the guy and play with him. I think it will always be on the minds of everyone during the '07 season.

Mike (Binghamton): Can we expect to see a little more 4-3 looks this year with Seymour sliding inside and bringing in Jarvis Green?

SportsNation Ty Warren: It depends.

Mac (Denver): Ty, do you think you could take Joey Chestnut in a hot dog eating contest?

SportsNation Ty Warren: No.

Tyler (Boston): Who is the fastest d-linemen on the team? I know that Vince is pretty fast.

SportsNation Ty Warren: Jarvis is probably the fastest one.

SportsNation Ty Warren: Me or Jarvis.

Chris (Boston): Are you going to wear something (as a team)to commemorate Hill this season, if so for how long?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I'm sure every guy in the lockerroom will take it on his shoulders to dedicate the season to him by doing something he would like to do - play to win.

Jameson (MA): whose the toughest QB to defend against?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I think Peyton.

dan, maine: Will you admit that you are the most underrated player in the NFL? Or is there another player who you think is more deserving of this honor?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I think there are a lot of guys that get overlooked for numerous reasons in the NFL. They can be compared to any of the guys who are looked at as elite.

Jameson (MA): how do you like gillete stadium and how does it compare to the other stadiums??

SportsNation Ty Warren: I like it a lot. I'm playing the game, so I really don't get to take it all in, because I'm worried about the guy that's across from me. I don't really pay attention to what's going on in the stadium, I'm in my zone. But it's a great place to play. Great fan support.

brian (boston): how much can you bench and squat?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I bench press about 480 and squat about 760.

Mike (Binghamton): Do you think 4 games is too long for the pre-season?

SportsNation Ty Warren: It depends. I think every player has his opinion on the four games. I think a lot of guys would like to be compensated for the four games. Others just love to play the game and could care less.

Craig (Oakland, CA): Are you guys responsible for the fall of the Raiders? Ever since they played you guys in the Snow Bowl, they just haven't been the same...

SportsNation Ty Warren: I wasn't in the league that year. I came in the year after that. But that seems to be the verdict for some people.

Bobby (Grand Rapids, MI): How do you feel about the way Roger Goodell is cracking down on personal conduct?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I think it's something that needs to be done. On the same note, it's something that needs to be consistently done.

Brian (Philadelphia): Ty, who do you see as being the biggest challenge to you guys in the AFC this year?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Anyone that we don't prepare well for.

Vinny (Providence, RI): Do you notice a difference with Romeo Cronel gone?

SportsNation Ty Warren: No, I think the concept has been the same. They're all under the Bill Belichick umbrella. So everything has stayed the same, the concept is the same. It's just a different person in Romeo's position. I think Dean has done a great job.

Nick (Boston): Funniest guy in the locker room?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Junior Seau.

Vinny (Providence, RI): How much time do you spend reviewing tape as a team/inividualy for a given game?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Probably 80 percent film and 20 percent practicing.

Bobby (Grand Rapids, MI): Who is the toughest player you've ever played against and what made him so good?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I think LT is a beast. He's just elusive. He can do a number of things.

Martin (Canada): If you could play any other postion in the nfl what would it be?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Linebacker.

Brendan (Section 315): Ty'ron Markeith is a pretty unusual name. Where did it come from? Is it a combination of names?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I don't know, you'd have to ask my mother that.

Daniel (Greenville, NC): Toughest O-line you play against? Denver?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Denver has a pretty good offensive line. Pittsburgh was good a couple of years ago when we played them in the AFC championship. Those two stick out.

Mike (Binghamton): Have you ever seen Bill Belichick with a shirt and tie on?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Yeah. On all the away games, he always wears a suit and tie.

Alex (PA): Who's the biggest talker in the lockeroom?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Rosevelt Colvin.

Mikey(Lackawanna,NY): Ty, Do you ever were any of your SuperBowl rings?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Only for certain occasions - speaking engagements, that type of thing.

Jameson (MA): Do you think you could play linebacker? bruschi made the transition didnt he?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Middle linebacker. I don't think I could be out there covering anybody.

Bobby (Grand Rapids, MI): Can you describe a typical offseason for an NFL D-Lineman?

SportsNation Ty Warren: For myself, I work out Monday, Tuesday. Do something light on Wednesday. Work out Thursday, Friday and something light on Saturday. It's a cycle. Then squeeze in a vacation here and there. And spend time with the family. Afterall it is the offseason.

Mike (Boston): What do you think of BB as a coach and person?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I think he's an outstanding coach, smart coach. He knows what he's doing. He's an awesome guy to play for.

Martin (Canada): At what point in your career did you realise that you could play in the NFL?

SportsNation Ty Warren: When I first got to the NFL. When I got to experience practices and weight lifting and interacting with the guys. I knew it was something I could do.

Vinny (Providence, RI): whats your favorite city to be in when you get that little free time?

SportsNation Ty Warren: I was in Florida for a couple of years. That was fun.

SportsNation Ty Warren: I appreciate the support. I'm looking forward to the season.

Thats all of it --

Heres my favorite answer:

Brian (Philadelphia): Ty, who do you see as being the biggest challenge to you guys in the AFC this year?

SportsNation Ty Warren: Anyone that we don't prepare well for.

Benching 480 regularly is impressive but the squats not so much. My friend squats 680 and is in great shape. But no where near Ty's size.

That kind of scares me. Hopefully thats his rep set work because if his max out is 760 then i would kind of worry.

This reads like a BB press conference.

I love Ty as a player (I personally think that he is pushing the top 10 for DEs), but his chats could use a little more life.

Jeez, Welker, that's great !

Warren said all the right things
... and darned little at that.

Squats are a weird thing to compare though..

For example, if you watch Ronnie Coleman squat (the 8 time Mr. Olympia champion bodybuilder, not the former player for the Houston Oilers) you can see that he uses a very limited range of motion on his squats. Video

...now I'm not criticizing Ronnie Coleman... ONE of his quads probably outweighs my entire body a few times over, but there's a difference between shallow squatting like he does, and ATG (ass to the ground) squatting that a lot of athletes do. My normal squats are ATG, but if I switch up to a more shallow squat, I can handle a hell of a lot more weight, close to twice as much as I normally squat when I go ATG.

By the way... that video is Ronnie (again, eight-time Mr. Olympia) squatting 805 pounds only TWICE, even with his shallow range of motion. If Ty is squatting 760 with anything close to full range of motion, and anywhere near 4 or 5 reps, then nobody has anything to worry about. Besides, I think it's clear from the film that Ty has ZERO strength issues with his legs when it comes to performance on the field. There's a difference between lifting for athletic performance and lifting for the sake of lifting as much as you possibly can. Ty's not concerned with his numbers in the weight room, just the performance that it brings on the field.

And if your buddy squats 680 going ATG for more than just a couple reps, then he's not in great shape, he's in tremendous shape, or at least his legs are.

Yeah. He has to be talking reps. 3-5 at least.
It's still a lot of weight, though.
I'm in the gym and I see people doing singles at about
800 on squats and over 500 for bench.
They are huge, too.

Very well stated. Particularly about the ATG reference.
I can tell you from personal experience it is very difficult to
do a perfect rep. For me, anyways.
After thinking some more about it, maybe Ty doesn't need
to do more than a single. I'll not worry about him.

gimme a break. 760 is a load

i doubt hes ever tried more. once u get near 1000, its a scary thing because injury and all that. u dont ever need to squat max really..as long as ur doing the reps at a high #.

i've seen injuries on video and all that from guys trying to squat a lot..they need to wear the knee wraps and everything.

Ty's fine with his squat. i could care less if his answer was 300.

he said hes stronger in the legs than Vince Wilfork and said him and Vince are stronger than Sey.

760 is phenomenal. And given the type of weight training a football player would do, I'm sure it's safe to say that he's not talking about 1 or 2 reps at that weight either.

I'll lay money that he could squash any of our heads between his thighs if he so chooses. :D

Ty Warren's physical condition is one of the things that I don't think anybody has anything to worry about with this team.

I don't worry about Sey, either.
Being tall is a disadvantage in power lifting.

im never worried about how strong our DL is. 3-4 lineman have to be strong and BB wouldnt take them in if they were weak or mediocre unless they have some other great talent

for our 3-4 guys, only worry is them staying in football shape(conditioning) and speed maybe

they are big guys..all are 4-3 DTs and big guys get lazy sometimes and big guys usually arent pass rushers at 300 pounds(but im not worried about our boys being lazy..nor am i worried about their speed)

I cant stand Ronnie Coleman, always screaming YEA BUDDY! and LIGHT WEIGHT!
Besides im almost positive he is still on the juice. amongst other things.

But your right. There are different ways to do it and i should have thought of that. My buddy drops to about midsection and goes back up so that cuts into the amount of effort and strength put into it. But if hes doing entire full reps then more power to him.

I made the stupid assumption of thinking that everyone does them the same way.

My buddy is a very strong guy but i never thought he was strong enough to make waves in NFL like training waters, im sure he'll be happy to hear that.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

Of course you need to max out and to get stronger! No matter on what body part. Thats how your muscle fibers tear and rebuild bigger and stronger. Doing the same weight consistently just defines your muscles and tones them even if your doing them at a high %.

Example. I max bench at 275 yet i do reps at 210. Just because i can do reps at 210 doesnt mean ill get stronger from it. I have to push the bar eventually to hit that peak and get that pump and volume.
