Boy, did I call it or what when I said you wouldn't answer my question..? Come on now, don't be so chicken... man up and give us an answer... you've avoided it every single time I've asked...

If the trade was so horrible and the Celtics should have kept the draft pick, whom should they have drafted..? It's pretty easy to criticize a trade and say in the abstract "we should have kept #5" but it's a wee bit tougher to actually give a real solution, now isn't it..?

Like I said... it's easy to criticize a trade, but you look foolish saying "we should have drafted Jianlian" or "we should have drafted Noah"...

I agree Ainge made a desperate move. That's kinda what happens when you have one of the worst teams in basketball but only get the #5 pick.

Dude, when gloating, be sure to do it in the right forum...that way you get full credit.

I dont claim to be a NBA draft expert, but I would like to think that the Celtics may have a few of 'em. Since Danny has been promoting a young team, I'd have probably picked any of the top 7 players for that spot...as I said before, this is a band aid for a gunshot wound....one of those little, deep in the box, never used types of band aids.

Its not like they were adding a player to get over the top, if they were, this is a great move...In 3 years, will the Celts be better off with the trade they made?

See, this is kinda a disingenuous response... There's 10 guys they could have selected at #5 and if one turns into a great player - and the other 9 suck - you'll be saying "I told they should have drafted so-and-so and not traded for Allen..!!"

Fact is there was no one available at #5 that is a sure-fire, can't miss prospect worth drafting and holding on to. Is Allen going to bring them over the top..? Hell no... but neither is Noah, Jinglian, etc...

I don't think in 3 years it will make any bit of a difference... But what if, hypothetically speaking, they get Garnett also..? Would that change your evaluation of the Allen move..?

I liked the trade for you guys, with the state of the conference you have to take your shot. The Cavs got to the finals with LeBron and a slew of journeymen. Pierce, Allen, Jefferson and journeymen (although Rondo may be more than that) - I have no idea why they can't make a run. If the Celtics were in the West I'd feel differently.

The Celtics still have their core of young players. They did not trade away anyone with the exception of West. Why in the earth would anyone still want Garnett at the expense of Jefferson and who knows who else? The current team will compete and probably take their conference. This will give a couple of the young players more time to develop. In addition, look for another transaction which will bring in a veteran free agent.

WTF is your problem, moron..? I am talking about basketball in the Celtics forum. Danny Boy and I have been going back and forth like this for years now. He's a good egg and I look forward to the day when I buy him a Budweiser for all his troubles... The only one ranting and raving here is you.

Me too....to bad the cheap bastid wont buy me a Guinness.
My friend, my friend, it's got nothing to do with money..!! After all, if I'm buying you a beer at a game, I'm already in for just about a $10-spot... I just want to introduce you to the King of Beers... :D

I think they should have drafted Corey Brewer. He fills a specific need for them in that he is a tremendous defensive player to match up with Wade or Lebron, and I think can develop a nice offensive game as well. Maybe Ainge thought that was redundant with Tony Allen, but after the injury he had there's no guarantee he'll ever be the same player again. Plus he's not exactly what I'd call a good character guy. It seems to me that better defensive teams are the ones that compete year in/year out, so getting better on D should be a focus. Instead we got worse on D this year.

This deal, by itself, blows. PERIOD!

I'd have taken Jianlian personally, although I'd have lived with Green. Worse case, I would have moved down, Maybe to #9 with Chicago, or aquired maybe the 12th pick from Philly + Andre Miller, and had taken Thorton or J.Wright at #12. This way we'd have a proven point, would have drafted another piece, and would not have suffered significantly since Miller is an expiring deal, and a good mentor for Rondo. That's me though.

Bud is complete swill. It's one of the only beers I can't drink.

I've got issues with the Allen trade. If this trade is a stand alone move, which I'm thinking it will be, it's borderline moronic. To trade the #5 pick in this draft, for a 32 year old shooting guard who is owed $50+ million over 3 years, and is coming off double ankle surgery, is stupid. Were we the Dallas Mavericks, a contending team with deep pockets, and in our window of winning it all, then fine. However, we're the Boston Wizards, a perpetual bad to mediocre team, that hasn't sniffed a true competitor for 20 years. We should have drafted at #5. The player we should have taken was named BPA, or Best Player Available. Instead we moved a piece of our future for step forward today, but 3 steps back for the next 5-10 years. Allen is far better a player than Wally, but their skill set in not much different. They are both excellent outside shooters that play zero D. Again, Wally was inferior to Allen, but overall, was the upgrade he provides, at 32 mind you, worth anotehr $25-30 million in contract $$, West, and the #5 pick? Not by itself it isn't.

Now, where do the C's sit with repsect to the Eastern Conference?

Are they better than:

Chicago - No

Detroit - No

Toronto - No

New Jersey - No

Miami - No

Washington - No

Cleveland - No

Knicks - Maybe

Orlando - Probably

So basically, what we've done, is moved ourselves into a level equal to the #7, or #8 seed in the Eastern Conference, but not certifiabley better than anyone else. So should Allen play his 55 games, Pierce miss 20 games, or Jefferson have an injury as he's had for 3 years now, the Celtics will have given up their #5 pick for a guarantee of.....of...

Maybe making the playoffs? GREAT!

You're still being far, far too pessimistic.

Pierce and Allen have been healthy players up until last season. Let's be optimistic for a second and assume it was an aberration.

I think Jefferson's health thus far can be chalked up to being young and inexperienced. He admitted one of his ankle sprains was due to not properly wrapping his legs. Hopefully he's learned to take care of his body at this point.

So if our current big three stays healthy, where's that put us?

We were 20-24 with Pierce in the starting lineup last season. (FYI, that makes it 4-34 without him).

That's a pace of 37 wins.

I'm going to say Allen + healthy, more experienced Al + more experienced Rondo = 5-10 more wins.

I'm not being pessemistic, I'm being realistic.
