Thread title sums it up . . . if you were BB, and you had 1st and goal--let's say at the 3-yard line--who would you put on the field, and what play would you call? [As far as roster goes, you can use anyone currently on the roster.]

VINCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has to be Vrabel...in his words not mine, "Tom, look this way, I'm always open"

maroney, with kyle brady as blocking full back two tight ends with a tackle playing one of them , then give it to maroney

Well running to Maroney in that situation is what, IMO, cost us the game at home against The Jest but assuming our OL is healthy and playing at a solid level, I'd have K. Brady in and run it to Maroney 4 times if necessary - unless he losses yards like against The Jest.

Of course, once we've done that a few times into the season it becomes play action heaven.

I like the idea of two pass catching backs (stolen from another thread) in goal-line situations.

How about:

5 starting OL and T. Brady
Morris
Evans/Mills

Watson
K. Brady

Moss

This leaves the option for power running behind FB (Evans/Mills) and TE Brady. K. Brady is huge and could definitely make some catches over the middle plus the other backs/TEs are capable receivers. And of course, the fade to Moss has seemed to work in the past...

If more than five yards to go:
Moss/Watson on line
Welker in motion
Evans/Maroney in backfield

As for the play, let Brady figure it out. ;)

On first down I would line up the biggest 5 lineman on the ball, T Brady in a shotgun with Faulk at his 9 o'clock. K. Brady tight on the right and Troy flanked right. Moss split left with Welker slotted.

Direct snap to Faulk.

Wilfork up the middle! :D
Seriously....
Play action corner fade to Moss.

give the ball to Evans

a sweep to Mahoney... right side.:rocker:

I throw it to Wes Welker. By the time the year is done he has 10+ TDs and Miami feels really dumb.

agreed. give it to Faulk. i trust him.

or Maroney imo..we need to trust him

line it up like this:
from left to right:

Thomas-Brady-Light-Mankins-Koppen-Neal-O'C-Watson

in backfield:
Tom Brady with Seymour or ADALIUS THOMAS in the backfield as the FB and Maroney as the runner.

give him a play to the left side with the FB lead blocking behind Brady-Thomas-Light and Mankins

MONEY

At this point, I think you just throw the ball high in the corner of the end zone and let Moss make a play.

I'd put K.Brady, Light, Mankins, Koppen, Neal, O'Callaghan out there. Line Oldenburg up as a tackle-eligible H-back back behind Neal and O'Callaghan. Have Moss and Stallworth out there with Faulk lined up next to Brady. Then, let Brady have FUN.

Options:
1) Direct Snap to Faulk.
2) Brady hand off to Faulk.
3) Play-Action to Moss, Stallworth or Oldenburg.
4) Fade to either Moss or Stallworth.
5) Out pattern to K. Brady.

Not Maroney, he goes down way too easy. I'd give it to Heath Evans at 6' 250 Lbs. Mano y Mano. Win it in the trenches.

Maroney goes down way too easy? Have u seen him play? hes tough to bring down and he ranked 2nd or 3rd in league in YARDS AFTER CONTACT.

You haven't watched Evans run much, have you? Evans is a LOUSY short-yardage back.

I also think you are wrong on Maroney. If you watched him at the beginning of the year, prior to his rib/shoulder problem, he was a very good runner both between the tackles and outside the tackles. It was only after his injury that he had the problems.

Two TE, two back, 1 WR set:

WR - Moss (gives you option for the fade pattern or quick slant)
TE - Watson, Brady (gives you both pass and run options)
FB - Evans (good blocker, decent hands, and you can give him the quick hitter up the gut)
RB - Maroney

Run an offset I with the FB lined up on the same side as Watson (say, the left side, for example). Why? Because it gives the look that they're running left (the side where the FB is), but their best blocking TE is Brady on the right. So they can run effectively either way.

This gives the Pats a maximum number of effective options, and it keeps the defense off-balance.

John

Maroney off left tackle.

Or play action it to anyone.

Boo yeah.
